Because of your statement "Although most are Democrats, there is one Republican," this implies that Judge McCullough is a Democrat. He is not. All judges do, however, run without party affiliation on the ballot.

It appears that Gary is not aware of Republican Judge Doug McCullough recent DWI plea conviction making him the first sitting judge above the law and still running on probation....Amazing!

"NC Highest Court Only Sitting Republican DWI Judge"

Judge DWI Plea
Carteret - 4/3/2007
A North Carolina Appeals Court judge has pleaded guilty to DWI charges in Carteret County.

Judge John Douglas McCullough must pay a fine, perform community service, and lose driving privileges for a year as part of his sentence.

McCullough blew a .12 in a breathalyzer test back in October.

A spokesman for Judicial Standards says McCullough faces no formal charges related to his standing as an Appeals Court judge.

What the heck does that mean? Talk about wishy-washy dissembling to avoid saying anything substantive.

What exactly did the Commission do? Did they say "pretty please don't be a partisan hack in public?" Did they smack him on the back of the hand? Why not explain to the citizens of North Carolina precisely what steps are taken in the face of such poor judgment?

It's no wonder people have declining confidence in our state's institutions.
