Re: Easley trip to Italy cost $170k

I don't think I could ever afford to pay $590 for two nights in an Italy hotel and that's because I can always find better offers other than luxury hotels. I don't question your staying there, you got your own reasons, but why would I pay for standard luxury services I can find anywhere instead of paying for common hotels that actually bring the Italian spirit right in front of me.

What kind of financial benefits might one expect after this type of appointment? I might want to challenge the lack of public advertisment.

Thomas to Crime Control. Perdue Credibiity on the Line.....

Thomas has extensive service in statewide law enforcement. District Attorney in eastern North Carolina. State Senator and State House Member. Thomas is considered by many including Basnight to be one of the up and coming leaders in North Carolina.

In addition, Thomas is a native of New Bern (Perdue's home) and has worked hand-in-hand with the Governor-elect for over 20 years- along with members of his family- played a key role in getting Perdue elected every step of her career- and getting her where she is today.

Word on the street is Perdue has damaged her credibility considerably since November with many of her long-time supporters. Her personal solicitation of a number of secretary candidates-- including Thomas for the Crime Control & Public Safety role-- and subsequent decision will be looked at closely by watchers across the state.
If she hangs Thomas out to dry (a lifelong supporter and highly qualified professional) after soliciting his involvement... she will have set a dangerous pattern. Further demonstrating Perdue's rapid alienation of many key supporters at an alarming rate, many whom only weeks ago she was begging for resources to win a tight governors race....

According to supporters, since November Perdue has turned a deaf ear and has insolated herself in-hiding behind a underperforming Zack Ambrose, surrounded with a odd assortment of re-treaded bureaurcrats zero representation in her inner-circle with any crediblity outside the beltway with grassroots who elected her.

Word is many life-long supporters are extremely angry- and in a way which (if not adddressed) will manifest itself in stiff opposition and disregard to her agenda in the state legislature, causing her influence to be limited and legislative leaders taking a heightened leadership role in the upcoming session.

Here we go again.Seems like Pat McCrory's ad about status quo Bev. was right on the mark! With problems in so many state agencies, why would she want to keep the same cast of characters?Health and Human Services has huge problems(poorly trained staff, etc.),and of course DOT(remember the survey that they tried to cover up the results from the media-the people at the top didn't like the findings(poor oversight of costs, poor inspection procedures-meaning contractors getting by with less than top quality work.)Come on Gov. elect, clean house and start over!!!

Any officer or human being that mistreats a animal as this officer did should be punished to the max instead of getting off scot free and getting his job back as well. This officer is a real poor role model for others in how to train their dogs to obey and follow orders. I still have problems trying to understand why this officer was so mean to his dog and friend and protector.

Soon there will be some really great exposition of corruption in the DOT, etc by the great Fern Shubert, who will continue in the role of de facto investigator in the absence of Les Merritt!

Fern Shubert should be our governor instead of Sugar Dumplin.

What about Valeria Lee? She is one of the second round of transition team leaders, and finished up at Golden Leaf earlier this year. Is she really retired, or would she like to wrap up her career as, say, Secretary of Administration? It wouldn't be too surprising if she was aiming for Commerce, either.

The NCDOT is one of those organizations that has spun out of control. Too many people spending too much money for whatever results are generated. It definitely does not need another caretaker who will only perpetuate the joke that it is. A private organization with the budget of the NCDOT could pave the world.

Throw the NCDOT into the mix with the big Detroit three. Add water, simmer for 30 minutes, then dump in the fish tank.

Raleigh businessperson Nina Szlosberg is a leader on rail, environmental, and related questions as a member of the state Board of Transportation. She'd make a fine Secretary of Transportation, with a clear commitment to an effective and balanced transportation system.

FFC1304 "A NC Constitutional Amendment calling for ONE Senator for EACH of the 100 Counties in NC ...:

I think the US Supreme Court tossed this idea in 1962.
