WHY do NC democrackkks even NEED to spend this kind of money, when they already control the state elections?

I think other comments are mostly on target! However, as one respondent said everyone has seen a drop in income in recent months...so, we've all had to cut services....except the legislature.
I don't think the governor, senate or house has made any effort to curtail their expenses! They all seem to be interested in cutting services to every tax payer other than themselves.
They should be ashamed to even consider cutting services to the very citizens who cannot speak for themselves (children and mentally ill)!
Cut the fat! One prime example is the "CEO" of DPI.....at the salary offered him? A slap in the face to all of us.
Thank goodness the courts prevailed and he had the good sense to 'retire'.
But, how many more unnecessary appointees are there of which we are unaware?

Do what the rest of are doing............spend less because we have less. It isn't rocket science. You can temporarily reduce all legislature and executive salaries 15% for 3.5 years and balance the budget very easily.
ost of us have seen a dramatic drop in our income in the last seversal months.

She's not asking to cut the sales tax, just the 2% surcharge on income tax. I think that is an appropriate request, as EVERYONE in the state should pay their fair share, and a huge percentage of folks don't pay any income tax for various reasons.

We wouldn't have this Constitution if it had not expressely guaranteed that religion would remain tax free forever. Every state directed, in their debates over the Constitution, that that was a condition for ratification. If you care to amend it- try! (81% of American adults identify themselves as religious! Good luck!)

Tax the churches, they are BIG business. Tax the church property, it is real estate. There is no reason to exempt some of the most valuable and taxable property in this state in the name of any church. A church is a structure. Structures sit on land. Fair is fair. The church is/should not be anyone's God.

No income taxes but I need more taxes to pay for schools = does not compute. Unless she's sleeping with bernanke and has access to his printing press like the feds and the US congress do....

Has there ever been a time when education had enough money? Where do we place now with the other states, just above Mississippi? Funding education is like kissing a baby on the head--no one argues against it. Frank Zappa used to have a controversial song with the chorus, "Tax the Churches". Since large churches can fund missionary trips out of the country, wonder what they could do to help this country? Oh, I forgot, I'm dealing with the sacred cow of religion which has remained tax free forever.

Sounds like Perdue wants her cake and eat it too.

She wants to "save schools" but at the same time she doesn't want to tax the very people who use those state services.

Although I am glad to see this sales tax killed, I have noticed that Perdue has given zero help to the General Assembly on how to come up with the money. And then to throw salt on the wound, she has asked for even more tax revenue.

It would really be nice to see some leadership coming from the Governor's Office instead of a Princess throwing a fit because she is not getting her way.

I'll ask my own inland insurance agent what this really means to me, an inland resident vs. what I read in this article.

Then, I'll decide what misfits in the GA to recommend voting out.

Terrible Bill. The only winners are the insurance companies. Eastern NC will be paying about 300% more than the standard rate and insurance companies reduced their liability, Inland policy holders shouldn't worry about assessments, Historical data shows it will never happen and the most the assessments would be are around $60 per year if it did. Maybe the Senate will have more sense than the House. And remember one more time, this is not about the beach but about the 18 coastal counties as far west as Columbia, Camden, Eliz City, Beaufort, a 2hour drive from the beach.

Re: SEANC airs two more ads

Good for you SEANC. I would add my vote to making both Representatives Holliman and Gibson "priors"......
Neither has any intention of any kind of serious
reform to the state annexation law.
They don't care about the little old ladies that will lose their homes. They don't care about the children and families that do not have insurance now because times are so bad.
They don't care about the children wanting to go to college and
their parents not being able to afford it.
They don't care that the Chappell's family farm near Rocky Mount will have to be sold because they cannot pay for the main water and sewer lines that this annexation will allow the city to run around their property at a cost to the Chappells of $217,000.00. This the Chappells will be forced to pay, even though they don't need water and sewer.
They don't care that Mr. Chappell is fighting cancer also.
They only care about staying in good standing with The League and being informed by The League. before the session is even over, that they can continue with the annexations in their districts.
They only care about allowing cities like Charlotte to have bragging rights about being among the fastest growing cities in the nation.
Charlotte's own Chamber of Commerce said that Charlotte didn't really grow, they just annexed.
