A public funded election option is fine. But that money should never come from taxes or fees. If locations want to have a special box on their tax forms or water bills to ask for additional money like the federal government does, than by all means let’s add this as an option. But restrictions on those not taking public funds and matching funds for those who do should be removed.

Then we will see the real support for public funded elections. Publicly funded campaigns will be limited by how much money the government agency raises each year minus the additional costs required to administer the program and then split between those who qualify to use the funds.

Voluntary participation by residents should be the only vote that decides if this program is funded or not.

… I do believe it could be a campaign slogan for some that they are beholden to no one, but that should include the bloated government too.

He is, and it's really irregular shaped too, probably gerrymandered. From Murphy to Manteo, and just look at the registration?

Why all this sudden talk of Burr and Veterans? Is it election season?

Richard Burr barely bothers to attend the Veteran Affairs Committee on which he theoretically serves as top Republican.

Veterans' Groups explain why it's probably for the best that Burr is a no show.

2007-2008 In 2007-2008 Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America gave Senator Burr a grade of C.

2006 Senator Burr supported the interests of the Disabled American Veterans 60 percent in 2006.

2006 In 2006 Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America gave Senator Burr a grade of F.

2006 Senator Burr sponsored or co-sponsored 18 percent of the legislation favored by the The Retired Enlisted Association in 2006.

2005 Senator Burr supported the interests of the Disabled American Veterans 33 percent in 2005.

2004 Senator Burr supported the interests of the Disabled American Veterans 0 percent in 2004.

2004 Senator Burr supported the interests of the The Retired Enlisted Association 17 percent in 2004.

What a distinguished career opposing Veterans' interest in the Senate. I can see why Burr is trying to make Veterans the cornerstone of his re-election campaign now.

What has Senator Burr done for this State? Nothing!!!

Look at the fews bills he sponsored -- most of them were resolutions honoring someone or something -- only few meaningful ones.

Send him an email questions and you get back the standard Republican talking points.

He states we're headed for socialized medicene, that no government sponsored health care is acceptable --- wonder about Medicare, Veterans Health benefits, etc.

He's on Veterans Cmte, but apparently doesn't support our Veterans health benefits.

You only hear from him at election time. Heaven help him if he shows his face in Western North Carolina, but I see he is finally going to Asheville, big deal.

Do some actual research and you will conclude that you statements are nothing short of the same partisan basis as you claim Burr uses...

Please explain how he has NOT support our veterans?

Because in my review of his record - He DOES and HAS!

Elizabeth Dole is gone, now he needs to go as well. And if Senator Hagan doesn't shape up she can count her days to 2014. Lucky for her she got a 6-year term instead of two like most of these ultra-right Congressmen and Women making a mockery out of this state.

Domestic conservatives carried out the OK City bombing, the Olymimpics bombing, bombings against abortion clinics and the murder of doctors. The 911 attacks were carried out by Islamic Religious Fundamentalists who share the same agende as American Christian Conservatives. Yep, most conservatives aren't terrorists, but most terrorists are conservatives.

Weather Underground was an outstanding compilation at individuals - but I forgot that associates of the President are to be never labeled terrorist!

Or perhaps let's consider the action of President FDR and the Japanese Containment Camps - PS> isn't that the party of "human rights" enacted those heinous institutions!

Better yet - what about the dropping of the Atomic Bomb on Japan after the Japanese had already conceded defeat - oh yes it is a true story...

And it is highly offensive and historically inaccurate to label American conservatives - which all of the Founding Fathers were - on the same level as Middle Eastern conservatives.

Ever consider the fact that the patriots of the American Revolution would be considered terrorist - according to popular definitions...

Revisionist history is great unless you are smart enough to educate yourself!

NC voted for Obama, so going against Obama is going against the wishes of Burr's constituents. Otherwise I agree, Burr is mostly worthless (as are almost all Republicans).
