especially since the Chapel Hill meeting will take place in my living room! I've heard there are still a few tickets available.

An interesting sidelight: My wonderful wife, Jane Brown, introduced Ms. Steinem to the student body at the University of Kentucky almost 40 years ago ... and would be introducing her again this weekend if we were able to be in town. But we'll be taking our daughter to New York to start college this weekend, and won't be here for the big event.

Go women!

I think it is ironic that Senator Hagan is a devout church goer and has a unquestionable belief in God. Yet she supports abortion.

I think it's ironic you aren't a Centurion in the Roman Catholic Empire, yet make such arguments as if they pertain to America.

Bet you support the Death Penalty though. Kind of like your kind did to Jesus on the Cross, huh?

EWOL you need to back up you statements with actual facts. Can you go back let's say 3 years and give us every "POOR" woman raped and a victime of pedophilia. But why just restrict this funding to poor women. What about middle class women with no health insurance.

I don't think she'll go along with this proposal.

I totally, totally agree. I'd bet $50k could be saved by having the governor drive to a few meetings rather than fly a helicopter or jet. I sure hope she will override this cut.

Well I guess technically you are right that Governor Perdue hasn't recently taken a stance on the state abortion fund - but one could argue she took a stance against it in 1995 as one of the NC Senate’s chief budget writers when she helped cut funding for the state abortion fund from $1.2 million to $50,000.

The 50K is like spitting in the ocean. When many poor women are victims of rape and pedophilia, getting pregnant is an assault. These women and young girls deserve AT LEAST an abortion, if they don't want to parent. In the long run, this would be cheaper than dealing with the results of unwanted parenthood.

Just to be clear: Perdue has not taken a stance on the state abortion fund. These proposals were given to her by agency heads.

Kudos to you Bev! Civilized people can disagree about allowing abortions, but forcing taxpayers to pay for what some believe to be immoral is clearly wrong.
