We have a budget deficit so what do we do? We increase spending and depend on raising fees (taxes) and "free" money from Washington. On top of that let's just pay reparations to those individuals and/or their descendants who were sterilized. Yea that makes a lot of sense. Guess I never took Democrat economics.

Relying on a temporary measure like the Spendulous bill to cover a budget gap brought on by irresponsible spending is in it'self irresponsible. What is Perdue and her Democratic buddies going to do in fiscal year 2012? The Democrats ahve created a dependent state made up with victim classes.

Eliminating the Golden Leaf funds taxpayer funding would free up over $400 million this year. And it would technically free up some money next year because we would npt (taxpayers) contribute to it.

While we are at it will someone explain to me what Obama has against the free-enterprise culture of America? We did not get this powerful economically using European Socialism as our model.

Kay Hagan is a phony

During the campaign, Hagan came out against the Stimulus Package. I just spoke with staffer in Hagan's DC office and they informed me that she will be voting for the Stimulus. This is not a big surprise to me, but worth noting. I also questioned the young lady on the phone about Hagan's position concerning the Congressional Budgetary Office's report about the Stimulus Package not being the best remedy for the recession and she said that the Senator was not aware.

Also interested to note...Kay Hagan has hired Muthoni Wambu - to serve as the State Director. Wambu is not from North Carolina and has spent no time in the state. Rather according to Hagan's Raleigh office, she has spent time in New York, followed by stints in Chicago and DC. Formerly Wambu is rumored to have been on the staff of Joe Biden.

How can someone with no relationships and experience in North Carolina truly help us citizens?

Current

        * State Director at U.S. Senator Kay Hagan
* State Director at Office of U.S. Senator Kay R. Hagan
* Deputy Campaign Manager/Political Director at Kay Hagan for U.S. Senate (Self-employed)

Past

        * Deputy Political Director at Biden for President
* PAC Coordinator at AFL-CIO
* Deputy PAC Liaison at Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee

Wow so much for Hagan's claim of fighting special interest. Her state director used to dole out the dollars for special interest...Lies on the campaign can come back to haunt you during the reelection cycle

I think Laura's got it right too, especially the part about the fear of torts thing. But unless the criminal (Class II Misdemeanor) aspects of this bill are removed, there's even more at stake here. The fine of one penny might sound like the intent is a "harmless lesson", but the criminal record itself will follow the person forever. Future employment (or advancement) problems, other subsequent civil/criminal proceedings tainted (child custody, etc.), and even aspirations for public office can be snuffed during an ugly campaign.

The best solution to reign in blogs that are "out of control" is total transparency by public officials. When you close the door to that backroom, people are forced to speculate based on limited information. When that speculation is wrong, part of the responsibility lies with those who keep the truth close to their vests.

I wish I understood the actual proposed legislation better, but since by the sponsor's admission, a big chunk of the draft was a "mistake," it's kind of hard to make sense of it.

I agree that Laura probably has it right. Hard to explain otherwise.
