Raising money is the reality, and it's not at all hypocrisy. Plenty of candidates want more public financing but realize that, obviously, it takes advocates of public financing getting elected to the legislature before that can happen. And they can't get elected in the first place without raising money.

That eliminates Chris Heagarty and Linda Gunter as both of these two lobbyists have preached against the "evils" of campaign fundraising and instead advocate for taxpayers footing the bill for campaigns.

If they raise one red cent for a campaign they are both HUGE hypocrites.

I have only known Janet Schanzenbach for a short time. In that time, I have been very impressed with her wealth of knowledge and leadership skills. She is one of the most caring, compassionate people I have had the privilege of meeting, as evidence of her professional work as a lobbyist for mental health programs.

The combination of her leadership skills, wealth of knowledge in a wide array of public policies and issues, along with her ability to have compassion for people from all walks of life will be refreshing and a needed service to the citizens of North Carolina.

Janet Schanzenbach has a wealth of experience working on policy issues in the field of mental health, developmental disabilities, and substance abuse services. She has a strong knowledge of the budget process and has worked closely with many key legislators on issues related to improving accountability of local management entities and promoting community services for people with mental illness, developmental disabilities, and substance abuse.

Janet has also worked to promote the political leadership of women in the General Assembly through her work with Lillian's List. Janet will be a strong advocate for women, children and citizens with disabilities.

I believe it's Terry "Doc" Thorne (not Thome), the same person currently vying for the District 'A' seat in Cary.

While these are all good people, Heagarty is well-respected in all circles, and has worked on behalf of NC voters throughout his career -- everyone I've spoken with says he'll do a fine job.

What does a state legislator have to do with a federal takeover of health care? She would just be another Democratic legislator voting 100% in lock step with Hackney just like Rosa Gill has.

Gale Adcock is a fine candidate and deserves this opportunity to serve in the legislature. One need only observe her significant skills in working with others on the Cary Town Council. She is a fair-minded, information-based decision-maker and the town of Cary's loss will be the state of NC's gain.

We need a legislator with a strong understanding of the healthcare issues facing our nation and her medical background would be invaluable.

Words are important. These folks are not running for the office. They are smoozing with the Wake Dem leadership to get the job. District voters will have no choice on who is anointed in this position, just as voters in about half the General Assembly districts have no choice on who is elected in their districts when only one candidate is on the ballot.

I'd be ashamed to go public and say I supported this plan. I've emailed the NCDP and given them a piece of my mind on this boondoggle. I asked if they've heard of those "well financed" gov't programs like Social Security and Medicare and the US Postal Svc and ... Want it be great to add my health care plan to this red ink list. Are we following the lambs to slaughter?
