Unless Ron Paul tops the ticket, it will have to be Romney...hope they pick each other as running mates!

Romney is very Reaganesque, very appealing, very Presidential, heads above the rest, 'both' parties...

And he doesnt seem to be corrupt - which is a trait I know a lot of you democrackkks cannot deal with - how could a NON corrupt person get elected, right - expecially in NC?

I know, I know...its perplexing!

I find that political affiliation is an excellent barometer by which to evaluate people. It's not a perfect metric, but in the absence of other indicators, it seems to work pretty well . . . especially when you go beyond affiliation to active fundraising.

Rutherford is raising money for Mitt Romney, a man who has flip-flopped on virtually every major political issue in his run up to a presidential campaign. He's gone from being a moderate gazillionaire to a hard-core neocon gazillionaire without so much as blinking an eye. Isn't it fair to assume the two men have shared values?

The same with Art Pope endorsing Rudy G., a serial adulterer who has parlayed his so-called status as a 9/11 hero for huge personal gain. Despite their desire to burnish their conservative credentials, both have track records with their (ex) wives that leave much to be desired.

All said, I expect people to judge me by the people I endorse and for whom I do fundraising. Don't you?

PS I agree about the extremes to which politics have recently gone, but I'm not sure what to do about it. From where I sit, the downward spiral began with the neocon assault on Clinton, and then got worse and worse with Limbaugh, Fox News, swift-boating Kerry, etc. Dems mostly stood by and watched.

The blogosphere changed the dynamic by giving voice to the grassroots. And now that we're continuing to push back, folks in the middle (like you?) are lamenting all the extremism. I wish it weren't the way it is, but as I said, I'm not sure what to do. Unilateral disarmament and playing nice in a world filled with people like Art Pope, Vermin Robinson, Karl Rove, etc., doesn't seem like an effective response.

Fair enough. And I understand most of your decisions. I just think part of the problem with politics today is people take it to such extremes. A person shouldn't be judged by his/her political affiliation.

That would suit me just fine, Senate! Sports in general, and college sports in particular, have gotten WAY out of hand. Too much money, too much celebrity, too much, too much.

I understand your point about lightening up, but in a world with too many decisions to make every day, we all use different cues to guide our choices. I have friends who won't use contractors unless they're Christians. I don't shop at Wal-Mart or Sam's Club because of their employment practices, and I don't shop at Best Buy because of their political contributions. I've switched banks more times than I can count because of their PACs. I buy locally grown food. I boycott companies that advertise on Fox News.

And now I no longer go to Carolina Hurricanes games.

But wait, Anglico, don't forsake the Canes yet! After all, some of the other Hurricane movers and shakers will wish to host events for some other presidential hopefuls who have also tossed their hats into the ring.

Maybe even some of the Democrats, such as North Carolina's John Edwards, can get some help from a Hurricanes player on how to skate in on goal for a victory in the North Carolina primary.

Who knows, if people from the Carolina Hurricanes organization get involved with hosting events for as many as three different presidential candidates, perhaps "Under the Dome" will award the hockey team a "Raleigh political hat trick."

And this in turn may help to keep the candidates from indulging in too much high-sticking and cross-checking during the rest of the debates.

Talk about Litmus Tests. Lighten up, good grief, Keenan Stadium would be 1/4 full most Saturdays (not that John Bunting's teams actually ever had it more than half full to begin with) if Republicans cried and whined like you are...
