"We need to have a clear line of accountability" --- Soooo, we're getting rid of DPI? Adopting a national, standard test regime? Promoting actual lateral entry without EdSkool hurdles?

I am so excited!

Having worked closely with JB Buxton for several years, I can honestly say that he is one of the brightest young men I know. He has been a great leader while at the Department of Public Instruction and I am proud to have been a part of this legacy. I look forward to his ocntinued involvement in education in North Carolina.

Here we go again!!!! more corruption without interuption. Taxpayers get your pocket books out and shut your mouth. Raleigh politics, you get what you ask for sometimes and the voters spoke loud and clear on nov 4th. They had a chance for change in raleigh, but where so narrow minded the thought they couldn't vote anything except a straight democrat ticket. So, now she isn't even sworn in yet, but the same old corrupt people start to ooze to the top. No suprise here, thats what happens when andy griffth elects your governor. The voters don't check out the canidates. They vote democrat because andy said to, or obama said to, or their grandfather did, maybe they voted for bev because they hate george bush. WOW North Carolina voters really made a point this election cycle. But, the bottom line is we the people of north carolina will a pay the price for this point. Not just the folks that voted for these crooks, but everone in the state.

Speaking of budgeting, HOW MUCH $$$ has Ms. Hagan SAVED the taxpayers of HER own senate district for her term?

We can ALL be totally thankful that Aaron Plyler is out of the way...he held Union County back 20+ years...oh yeah, he's in the ROAD PAVING bidness too!

Re: Lee: Obama can win North Carolina

I agree, Obama can win the state. Some of the strategies that have been proposed for turning North Carolina blue:
1. Nurture the already six point existing lead with people who were not born in North Carolina.
2. Do not over-saturate with radio and televison. Person to person campaigning, is the best way to go in the state. On the ground, Iowa-style can turn the tide.
3. Target Republican women! McCain now has a commanding lead. But McCain is anathema to women on many fronts, most saliently on equal pay which he has opposed,
4. Target veterans since McCain has opposed the most progressive legislation since the original GI Bills.
5. Create local news and television features on young people who are creatively supporting Obama. Show how the campaign manifests itself locally.
6. Connect Obama and local surrogatse to barnstorming newsworthy local happenings.

In addition, you must include his salary, since he is appointed and we already elect someone to do that same job (efficiency saves many), plus your expenses. Just imagined that one person can waste that much money. Plus I posted another Carolina Journal Article showing how Easley wasted hundreds of thousands on personal travel to his beach house and today there is Easley's trip to Italy, which raises some concern to how wasteful this adminstration and life-long politicans like Howard Lee are draining our money and now we are not sure if we have enough fuel to power our buses. Maybe drilling off our shore would not be that bad.

From the story you linked to: "A lease would have saved $26,445 over a 34-month period."

So how, exactly, would a leased car help find schools $34 million dollars for gas? By my estimate, you're still coming up about $33,973,555 short, genius.

I am sorry Mr. Lee, if you would stop wasting our taxpaying dollars then perhaps we would have the addiitonal funds.

...so, what I think Fred Smith is trying to say is "Yes, the current administrative structure over education in North Carolina is broken. BUT it doesn't matter because as governor, I will be able to do whatever I want."

I agree, Mr. Smith, that being governor is in large part about leadership. But not bone-headed, hollow and arrogant leadership.

You say "we've got candidates talking about process and the constitution. That's just political talk." I disagree. Political talk is saying "I'll grab hold and get the job done" with out providing any substantive idea to voters about HOW you'll get the job done other than pushing people around.
