Re: Video poker eager to cash out

It's interesting that on the same day (8/1/09) a large 7/8 page political advertisement was published in the N&O, paid for by the NC Entertainment Group, of which Mr. Thevaos is listed as the President, and which indicates "new revenue without raising taxes" of $498 million, a quick look at the groups web page as listed in the ad, http://ncdontgobroke.com, estimates that same revenue as $480 million.

Now, I don't know about you Mr. Thevaos, but in my world $18 million dollars is a lot of money. I'm pretty sure that in the school systems in NC, that's also a lot of money. So, what happened to $18 million dollars between the publication of the 8/1/09 N&O and a 10:00AM viewing of your organizations web page at 10:00AM this same morning.

Tell you what, Mr. Thevaos. Your organization is willing to imply to the residents of NC that giving you the chance to install VLT's in NC will generate $480 million (see, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt on the other $18 million). Here's my offer: Deposit it on Monday 8/3/09 and I'll start to lobby my state government officials on 8/4/09 (sorry Mr. and Mrs. Legislator, but I don't have anything to offer for the quid-quo-pro).

It's simple: Pay now, play later!

Hilarious. Thank you.

As a Democrat, I give the Civitas folks points for their humor and creativity. But umm...where are the black people in the video? The high tech center is planned for North Carolina A & T University, an HBCU.

Not to expose my geekiness to the world, but the original Star Trek series was groundbreaking for a number of reasons, especially its multiracial cast. They went where no television show went before. Uhura was an integral part of the series and an inspiration for future communications directors. Uhura and James T. Kirk's kiss was the first interacial kiss on television.

I'm just saying...

I feel like a partisan fighter in the second world war, popping up and taking small-time shots at you in various and sundry threads; its like you'll never know where I'll show up next.

I'll stop, Box Goshington, but only because we are liable to be related, especially given where Quick Cheks are located, and where I'm from.

Actually, I just remembered I stopped in at a Quick Chek the other day to buy a pack of smokes. Who pays attention to those store names anyways...Quick Chek, Handee Hugos, 4/3/2 Brothers, etc.

Good way to turn around the accusation I was implicitly making of you.

Yes it was. Any chance you'll stop now, or just keep trying?

After all, we're probably cousins.

GoshBox, I've never been to New Jersey. Born and raised in NC with family here since 1712. I'm rural as well -- grew up cleaning chicken houses and picking off ticks.

Good way to turn around the accusation I was implicitly making of you. Anyone who knows me, though, would laugh at the irony of it.

Understood cdtew. You're Jersey, I'm rural NC. But like Plaque and Flouride we co-exist on this keyboard like someone who thinks they know it all... and me.

GOP and irony, live together in perfect harmony
You guys lose and I win, oh Lord, now I have to pee...

Thanks again for playing the North Carolina Lottery.

One big difference between the lottery and video poker.

Government runs the lottery.

And government doesn't want to have to compete in the marketplace for gambling dollars since anyone with half a brain knows that the lottery is the worst odds out there.

Hey, just stating that the Quick Chek chain of gas stations is a New Jersey-based chain with no known affiliates in North Carolina. My mistake.
