I wonder if she will ever meet with the people or just the unions? And where was she last week? She hasn't gotten one penny yet of the so-called stimulus money and is already asking for more. We need to cut off the spigot.

Political Junkie--you are a great questioner. You probably remember when the main stream media asked the tough questions. Fair and Balanced should be the motto of all media. I bet if Perdue were a republican, she would be treated differently. Why should Obama be treated differently than Clarence Thomas?

Unions are one of the causes of this recession. They are also one of the prime reasons that businesses contract ofr the manufacture of their products off shore. The find it cheaper and more efficient To get the owrk done their predicitble schedules and predictable quality are something they can depend on from nonunion wrkers off shore. What does Beverly plan to talk about? or is she there to ask what she can do to make the Unions more comfortable in NC??

She just got her son a cushy job - ethics training coming a little late?

Is she going to pay for her State/Carolina tickets or are they a gift from the university looking for a favor in return?

Are her meetings with the AFL-CIO, State Employees' Union and Teachers' Union to negotiate the payoffs for the $4 million plus in campaign cash she received from organized labor?

And, by the way, where the heck was she last week and did she find any of the 14,000 lost probationers at her vacation destination?

I hope one of the issues will be how much water the livestock industry uses, both at the slaughterhouses and at the large industrial farms. If citizens need to curb water usage then all areas of consumption need to be included.

Re: NCAE endorses Hagan, Davis, Young

You have to wonder what the teachers and state employees of NCAE were thinking when they endorsed David Young. I have heard Young speak about the Treasurer’s office and read his statements in The News and Observer and other papers – it is clear he does not understand how financial markets work or how to manage them – he is after all a Travel Agent. The State Treasurer is responsible for managing the State’s $78 billion pension plan that is supposed to provide the retirement of 820,000 North Carolinians. The State’s employees and electorate have had the good sense over the last 75 years to put someone in the Treasurer’s office who has some real working knowledge of financial markets. Why NCAE would choose to endorse someone who is a Travel Agent is beyond me.

Nope, sorry... he may be high up in the Co Commisioners realm but he is NOT very well liked in Buncombe...Please do NOT vote for him!

He's a democrackkk...We are NOT voting for anymore democrackkks as of this time. 100+ years of democrackkk domination in NC has RUINED our state!

Strive to be smarter than a democrackkk...

Re: Transfer tax fight goes local

Certainly spending taxpayer money to attempt to grab more taxpayer money (power) would of course be wrong. This is a more nuanced approach, but I am surprised that the focus has been on the Realtor lobby when the groups in favor of a transfer tax have spent more combined than the realtors.
As a Wake resident with no realtor allegeance, I am not fazed by the arguments that our property taxes will not continue to go up regardless of what happens with the transfer tax. As with forced annexation by the city, there is no expectation of greater benefits that accompany greater cost to those being annexed.
This is a bad bill that will disproportionately affect those that live in low-income (read:low-appreciation) areas, who have amortization only to rely on. It will not matter much to those in $400k and up houses whose homes have appreciated $60k in five years.
This is a bad bill that will only give more control and power to those in power.

If anybody should be thankful, it is the counties. Relieved of the Medicaid burden and they get additional revenues to boot (if approved by the voters, or course).

Re: Transfer tax lobbying grows

Swanquarter,

You are absolutely correct as to realtors and developers working on the bond campaign.I worked along with them. Some actually contributed a substantial sum of money for the campaign..far more than I did. For most of them, I believe their motivation was as much personal as it was business related. Others I know work on school advisory boards, again as I did.Still others I know personally that are big supporters of our public schools.

If you read my post you would have seen I mentioned such citizens. And yes AFP was on the opposite site of the bond debate. In my post I was I was pointing out the contrast between those realtors and developers and the position of those who are directing the lobby. How clear can I make it.

If there is a single thing I said that you think is inaccurate, tell me what it is and I'll bet I can prove it. And I wish I was a professional blogger because then I could get paid for it..no such luck.

BTW, why don't you come out of hiding and sign your name?
