With regard to to the first part of Edwards' claim, I think, based on the debate in New Hampshire, you can safely say the message is Edwards and Obama represent change (thus the 1,2 finish) and Clinton represents the status quo.

The second part...eh, I dunno...I think he forgot that in that 1,2 finish, he was actually #2.

I'm really shocked that everyone's acting like he did badly in Iowa. He beat Hillary. I know some predicted he would do that & even better, but it was never a done deal. He could have come in third and it wouldn't have been a huge surprise. Slow & steady...

"Good weather" on caucus night (nothing falling and temps all the way up in the mid-20s) encourages the first-timers to come out for Obama. The Clinton organization comes through to retain a solid second place. Fightin' John Edwards finishes a respectable but disappointing third, reminiscent of Dick Gephardt. Richardson surprises by breaking into double digits. (Note to all my friends backing John--if I'm mistaken, I'll congratulate you tomorrow.)
