Clearly nobody on the left would oppose the nomination of judges that they may deem too conservative. No not never.

By expressing "concern" over the 4th Circuit's "changing makeup", does Holding mean he is "concerned" that longstanding vacancies are being filled SO THAT THE FOURTH CIRCUIT CAN DO ITS JOB???

Maybe he prefers governmental institutions that operate at two-thirds capacity? Maybe he enjoys seeing North Carolinians drastically under-represented on such an important Court? Then again, maybe he objects for for the sake of objection; kind of like someone who disagrees just to be disagreeable.

I don't know about the other two nominees, but Diaz and Wynn appear to be ideological centrists with broad experience and reputations for competence and fairness. Maybe Holding doesn't value such qualities in Appellate Court Judges, but I think that most citizens do.

Mind boggling

Poor George Holding doesn't even realize what a political hack he is. This guy gives sparkly new meaning to the delusion of objectivity on the bench. What an embarrassment.

So it's okay for draft-dodging George to pack the courts, and it's cause for concern that his successor is trying for a more balanced judiciary?

It's hard to understand Hagan's giving this guy the benefit of the doubt. Thank god he's on his way out.

Affair to Remember?

Glover says in the article that "everybody who was around me at the time knew about" the affair. For years, there has also been talk about a relationship between Glover and another very high-ranking public official. Given the revelations about Glover's past, the media should now ask those parties involved if these rumors should be put to bed or not. How about some answers?

I just cannot imagine a Democrat not toeing the party line. This is awful news. I hope the Democrats don't start thinking on their own. That might damage our belief in that "hope & change" business.

This is proof that liberal Democrats do NOT want a independent minded US Senator. If Burr holds a conservative line left wingers attack him, why? He is just holding the party line? What a bunch of hypocrites on the left.

We are in a economic crisis with a war, budget, and healthcare issues that need to be solved. Then is done through reason and indpendent thinking, not holding party lines.

Had enough? Vote Republican.

So Herget and his insider friend are advocating for more quid pro quo? I love how even in the day of “Change,” there never is. These two still believe that money is king and if you bankroll a candidate you should be able to control them when elected.

Apparently "change" is only for suckers.

Hagan is all for spending money like a Democrat. Hagan is all for racial profiling in voting for Sotomayor. Race, not prinicple is very Democratic. Tobacco is the the only grudging vote for NC. Hagan is voting with the blue states. Very Democrat! Hagan will vote yes to Cap and Trade. Hagan will vote for the Healthcare bill. Hagan voted for the stimulus package. Hagan will NOT vote to keep the Bush tax cuts in place. Hagan will be "tepid" but whatever Obama wants, Obama can count on her vote.

In addition to picking her judicial recommendations, Sen. Hagen should have had Justice Mitchell write her letter to the White House as well. He, unlike her staff apparently, would have known that Federal District Court Judges are not “individuals for appointment to positions at the Department of Justice.”

Cost of Corruption in NC: More or less than $109 per family?

It's been reported that the cost of corruption in Illinois eqauls $109 per family which is enough to retain 8,214 public school teachers (see below)

Let us know if you think that the cost of corruption per NC family is more or less than $109 in Illinois and why?
-----
Researchers at the University of Illinois-Chicago tallied the price of corruption to state taxpayers: at least $500 million a year. Based on prosecution costs and estimates that 5 percent of state contracts go to the politically connected, that equals $109 per family. The total is enough to pay the average salary for 8,214 public school teachers. (http://news.yahoo.com/s/bloomberg/20090522/pl_bloomberg/amdtnyk65y0k)

Re: Dome Memo: Perdue's travel records - lost?

Has the State Highway Patrol also conveniently lost their travel records for Perdue while she was Lt. Governor? That must be why Beverly has not been willing, despite numerous requests to make public her travel records for the past 8 years.

Why doesn't the N&O report on the travel records of someone who is actually still in office?
