It would have been nice if they discussed ways to make parents happier with how the school systems operate.

You have got to love North Carolina politics!

Co-speaker Black is in prison and co-speaker Morgan is vying to become the next Superintendent of Public Instruction.

This reminds me of when the preacher says, “As far as the east is from the west.” I wish we could keep these elections going year round. We just need to add in a hairdresser, a few $60.00 cheeseburgers and a big bearded Palin supporter and we would have a sitcom.

I’m all for shaking up the education system..... but Morgan?……..for superintendent of all of NC’s schools?

Further proof that we really need to get NC's mental health situation under control......

Re: More interest in interest rates

Clearly, some guidance is needed here. Right now candidates have no idea what is an acceptable rate of interest to charge on loans made to their campaign. Seems to me like a 8% to 10% interest rate is within reason, especially considering that the prospect of repayment is slim. I'd bet that most candidates who loan their campaigns money do so with very little expectation of receiving the principal (let alone interest) back.

Of more concern is the reality that running for office requires access to unheralded amounts of cash. Without being well connected to the well-heeled, or in the position to finance your campaign personally, elected office for most North Carolinians is simply unattainable.

Perhaps the legislature can provide some guidance via a standard interest rate. Or maybe the time has come for serious consideration of greater campaign finance reforms.
