Re: Quick Hits - and CEOs' ranking of best states for business

In addition to the Top 5 states perferred by CEOS being non-union, there is also an interesting contrast between the states preferred by CEOs and the states with the highest quality of life for their citizens.

The Top 5 states for business have an average Quality of Life Ranking of 34th.

The Worst 5 states for business have an average Quality of Life Ranking of 9th.

Question arises: whom does the government and the economy consider a higher priority? Is it benefitting businesses or benefitting citizens?

I call bull. Yes, Civitas' questions provoke a gut reaction, but it's clearly meant to be slanted one way, so what they're trying to find out is: do Republicans' arguments sway voters one way, and then they pass the results off as what the people really think. Their polls don't present a replication of the political environment of an election, where you get visceral arguments from both sides on various issues and voters get to decide which extremity tugs their heartstrings more. Real pollsters who are earnestly trying to find out which issues and arguments move voters use split samples with arguments from both sides.

riverrd can you please back up your statements of fact with some facts?

Would you instead believe a poll paid for by let's say the MoveOn.org or the DailyKos?

And calling Republicans or conservatives names is just one of your left wing distraction techniques. If you can prove a point with atleast 2 to 3 unrelated sources then you have backing. Even if the context is not right you still can make a valid point. It is time for liberals and progressives to step up to the plate. yes you guys won on many different levels. Other than distraction from you failures, how is the continual smears and attacks against us helpful?

Civitas and johnny locke are both just fronts for the MINORITY Flat-Earth republicans. You can not trust their so-called research nor their so-called "findings". And yet the Corporate Media reports on them and provides them coverage like they really matter!!

Ive often thought the ELON polling was a little spongey at best...they need to delve into REAL questions more, instead of generic, lightweight stuff.

Civitas and John Locke are the groups that phrase things much better for the real answers.

With all the embedded lieberal democrat domination in NC, anything else is totally refreshing, but most of the imbeciles are just too dumb to get it.
Thats why NC remains so oppressed by the party of SLAVERY.

yeah it's (heavily) republican leaning. I didn't think they were hiding their intentions, it's informative and useful and accessible - it seems fair. (not to say it seems balanced, or non-partisan, just... fair)

I don't think Elon has the same usefulness. But that's just me, thinking.

civitas and locke have always been candid and honest about their partnership to promote the gop and gop candidates - hayes openly admits that his polling is designed to reinforce gop messaging

Re: Conservatives for Neal?

There are five candidates in North Carolina running for U.S. Senate. The choices are a podiatric medical doctor named Howard Staley, two attorneys: Kay Hagan and Marcus Williams, a truckdriver Duskin Lassiter, and a homosexual banker Jim Neal who married a woman -- then decided he liked men more and left her in order to participate in the homosexual lifestyle. The most qualified choices are obvious, and Neal is NOT part of this equation. At a recent forum, Neal -- who is regularly accompanied by a flock of homosexual supporters during political functions, could be seen scribbling his own name over and over on paper during the forum. He spoke into another candidate's time and refused to stop talking when the last question was asked. [What he said was neither moving, intelligent or inspirational, nor did his words warrant the rudeness he displayed.] So it's not difficult to see Neal is not only a homosexual-banker, he is a cheat. He cheated on his marriage vows. He cheated another candidate out of his time to speak via radio. He smirks at Duskin Lassiter and during the time Duskin speaks. Neal acts like an immature bully who feels more threatened by truth than his words reveal. He does not play by any rules other than those he makes up as he goes along. He is a confused man. Previously confused by his gender and his manhood. Who wants to vote on a confused man? There is enough confusion in our government without making it worse. Neal would certainly bring confusion in Congress. He tells others he is leading in the polls when in fact he has NEVER led in the polls. The "UNDECIDED" has led the polls. He offers the Democratic Party division, confusion, rudeness, immaturity and lies. The other candidates offer a bit more stability. They are obviously the better choices. No one has asked Neal how he supports himself during this campaign. His work has been his campaign, so it is logical to ask how does he live? Where does his money come from? Does he pay himself a salary from his campaign contributions? Of course, this is probably legal -- BUT, the other candidates seems to be holding down jobs and working on their campaigns in the midst of their work. So, the division we see in the Democratic Party --is not from the majority of Democrats. It is from the extreme left wing Democrats who should consider making up their minds to be or not to be a Democrat as defined by tradition. If they can't make up their minds, then they should form their own party and stop dragging the rest of the Democratic Party and its supporters through the muck and mire. The issues in this election are profoundly important. Solving the problems our Nation faces has no room for narcism, rudeness, immaturity and confusion. It requires astute focus, seriousness and dignity.
Re: Civitas: No ties to complaint

Of course Civitas Institute did not have anything to do with filing this complaint! It is well known by everyone, except it seems by Corporate Media, that this so called "think tank" is nothing more than a "Front Organization" for the Republican Party! They would NEVER release any information nor take any action that would put the Republican Party in a bad light, except maybe to attack a faction of their party that does not "tow the Far Right line" or support their leadership cabal.

Re: Appointment disappointment?

It's not that the position itself is worthless -- and neither is the current occupant -- but rather that the position cannot do much (it can't even appoint the deputy superintendent), and certainly cannot do what political candidates might promise to do. The Board of Education ought to appoint the superintendent, just as the UNC Board and the Board of Community Colleges appoint their system presidents.

Philosophically, the system just isn't logical. The people give power to their elected representatives, who then give certain power to the state Board of Education. But then the people simultaneously give some power directly to a superintendent of schools. If this was done at the local level, we'd call it crazy.

I can't speak on the other positions, but the superintendent of public instruction is truly a worthless position.
