Legal cigarette lying

Over the years, I've paid a much higher price on behalf of the tobacco industry, but I'm sure that won't make their ad.

- Higher health insurance premiums and lower benefits.
- farmland dedicated to tobacco instead of food.
- countless jobs lost to manufacturing improvments/consolidation and/or shipping jobs overseas.
- rotting corpses of buildings left behind, costing millions of dollars to bring up to code.

Counting convience store workers among the 50,000 "tobacco employees" is misleading to say the least.

Why should we be sympathetic to an industry whose sole purpose is to get rich off the addiction and eventual death of our neighbors? They think they're doing us a favor by killing off Joe Camel, yet Teen smoking is only slightly in decline, not squashed.

As a taxpayer, do I have any say in the "taxpayers alliance"? Of course not, I don't have any Camel cash to spend on full page ads.

Campaigns and the corporate media don't care about finding truth in political polling, they're looking for advantage. These guys will drum up lots of business and plenty of media coverage.

If they were serious about honest research, however, they would have defined their business as "non-partisan," not "bi-partisan."

I know why there are 31% undecided it is not they are undecided it is that they didn't get to vote in the poll for their candidate. I have decided that I will take the 31% undecided thereby putting myslef right at the top.

Sounds like a great idea to me.

They think the citizens of NC are stupid and beleive eveything they say in their campaigning. The days of politicians buying votes are almost over. There are many places voters can get info on candidates.

I believe the voters are sick and tired of politicains selling out to the highest bidder. The intent of electing someone was elect someone like yourself to represent you. If people vote their hearts and minds and vote for someone who is like them and who will do what is right for them, I will be the next govewrnor.

Brad Crone is very wrong. There is a large grassroots movement in North Carolina building that is desperate for a viable candidate to run against Sen. Dole. The atmosphere to remove loyal Bushie Republicans was never better and with a candidate similar to Heath Shuler the Democrats would easily win. Let's face it, Sen. Dole is a rich childless woman who seems glad to send North Carolina children to war, North Carolina jobs oversees, and likes to shout down anyone who disagrees with her. She not likeable and she arrogantly votes with Bush every time. She’s very beatable: Democrats simply need to step up to the plate.

What About Bob?

Bob Crumley and Bob Orr won't be happy their favorables are so low in the poll's Republican primary results but at least they can be consoled by the 110% response rate while other candidates only managed 100%.

Robert Orr 08% +30% +02% +05% +65% = 110%
Bob Crumley 08% +20% +02% +04% +76% = 110%

Re: Questioning the polling questions

I think Brad's explanation is legitimate. But I also wouldn't be too bothered by the results because in the question directly preceding it, 12d, the public says they are in favor of new taxes for road maintenance and construction.

I'm not surprised by that at all. In all the polling we've done at Public Policy Polling I can tell you that people don't like taxes. And they won't support new taxes in a poll question-- unless you give them context for the taxes. They are willing to support higher taxes and fees if they pay for schools, roads, health care, etc.

I love both of these guys, but please pardon me if I call it the bi-partisan developers poll. Chris is firmly in thier pocket, (see triangle community coalition) and my boy Brad just made a killin' off running a bunch of commercials for the realtors to kill the transfer tax.

That said, both are solid professionals, (more than myself) and I wish them the best of luck. Just take any growth questions with a grain of salt. :-)

question 11 states:
"11. What would you consider the most important issue that the Legislature should address in the 2008 elections?"

do they mean the 2008 session?

Bipartisan maybe, biased maybe. Both firm are consultants to the NC Realtors.

There is a math error in the Bob Crumley results.

11 seems to be a long list. There is no indication these were rotated to eliminate bias from the last two loaded statements.

12a-g appear loaded in favor of their clients, NCAR, including the "my family has hit the limit" phrase from the earlier realtors' poll.

In particular 12a and 12c have three statements for only one response.

Re: Transfer tax lobbying grows

Swanquarter,

You are absolutely correct as to realtors and developers working on the bond campaign.I worked along with them. Some actually contributed a substantial sum of money for the campaign..far more than I did. For most of them, I believe their motivation was as much personal as it was business related. Others I know work on school advisory boards, again as I did.Still others I know personally that are big supporters of our public schools.

If you read my post you would have seen I mentioned such citizens. And yes AFP was on the opposite site of the bond debate. In my post I was I was pointing out the contrast between those realtors and developers and the position of those who are directing the lobby. How clear can I make it.

If there is a single thing I said that you think is inaccurate, tell me what it is and I'll bet I can prove it. And I wish I was a professional blogger because then I could get paid for it..no such luck.

BTW, why don't you come out of hiding and sign your name?
