We taxpayers desperately need to keep as much of OUR money as we can. It is after all OUR money. How can I help stimulate the economy if you keep taxing both my income and EVERYTHING I buy! Typical Democratic double taxation.

Re: House: Tort bill debated sharply

In NC, if a WalMart truck hits you and is 99% at fault and the jury determines that you were slightly at fault, say 1%, then you don't get a penny. It doesn't matter if you were paralyzed from the neck down, you lose.

This is an archaic law, well-loved by AIG and other insurance companies, that only exists in NC and 2 or 3 other states. Every other state has done away with it. Even South Carolina has done away with it, and when your laws are more primitive than South Carolina, you've got a problem.

The insurance industry has a nice tight grip on the NC Legislature. I guess you have to hang around the bathrooms of high-end Glenwood South restaurants to see how the real "debate" happens. Interesting to read the other comments to this article. It's always amazing to me to see individuals fighting for the rights of big business and to diminish their own right to justice. I guess its just a different mindset.

I always love a body of lawyers who get a chance to vote on items that will make lawyers richer! What this politician was really saying was that " Because he got in a car with him... his lawyer was not able to gain a 25% portion of a lawsuit"

"Because he got in the car with him...his family never got a dime," Glazier said. That is unfair. That is fundamentally unfair to every citizen in the state."

I don't think that is unfair if he knowingly got in a car with an intoxicated driver.

Congratulations to my member of the House from Cary, Jennifer Wiess. She is just a good, all around clean politico. She takes her job as Representive of the people seriously, and she is responsible in her fund-raising tactics. Good job, Jennifer.

>NEVER meant to be a 'democracy'...in fact the word does NOT appear in the Constitution!

Not true.
This nation is a republic in a democracy.
The U.S. Constitution didn't need the word "democracy" -- from the Greek for demokratia, from 'demos' "common people," + 'kratos' "rule, strength" -- to be democratic, since it was ordained and established by "We the people."

If we're going to list all the words not in the Constitution, we're going to be here all day.

Congrats to those members on the list. Despite FFC's notions, there are some good people in Raleigh on both sides. Many of them are listed above.

Yeah, FFC, speaking of "KKK," I guess you're among those hoping we'll never see another politician exploit bigotry and be praised and rewarded and honored for it in North Carolina.

Hmmm? Of course.

Yeah, but its that remaining 2% of questionable donors who get somehow left out or covered up...

Did Les Merritt run an audit for 'democracy NC' for these 'honors'?

'democracy NC' needs to realize we were NEVER meant to be a 'democracy'...in fact the word does NOT appear in the Constitution!

why does everyone scream 'democracy' in NC when its clearly NOT, especially after 100+ years of democrackkk rule.

Sounds like the spend-and-tax cycle is about to begin anew.
