Why should we believe what Beverly said to the N&O about being accessible when she is Governor if her actions as a candidate do not support her promises. I thought the role of a candidate for the state's highest office was to be heard by ALL of its citizens, not just picking & choosing select markets to be heard in.

While Beverly may think that she has debated enough, it's obvious that her constituents don't support that claim. Shame on you Beverly as it is clear that you are just an Easley clone! Enjoy hearing the future Governor, Mayor McCrory debating tonight!

Ok, so she rejected McCrory's proposal to have "town hall" style events around the state. Among a dozen others, she dodged the two UNC TV debates that are just down the road from where she lives in Chapel Hill. Now that she is behind in the polls, she proposes "town hall" meetings around the state if she is elected Governor.

Perdue doesnt want to debate statewide because she doesnt want to get steamrolled by McCrory in front of a statewide audience.

Lt. Gov. Beverly Perdue says she's debated plenty.

The Democratic nominee for governor criticized a N&O/Charlotte Observer story this morning on how U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Dole has largely avoided debates and Perdue is skipping the only live statewide televised debates.

"It took me almost three or four minutes to get to the part that said, 'Oh by the way, she's done four (debates),'" Perdue said during a meeting with the N&O editorial board Wednesday. "'She's done one every month. She's doing one next week.'"

Perdue and Republican Pat McCrory have faced off in four debates that were televised in individual TV markets, such as Raleigh, which sometimes were picked up by stations elsewhere in the state. She said five debates, counting one next week in Charlotte, is more than any governor's race in history. The article wasn't fair, she said.

"I'm a grown up," Perdue said. "Things don't need to be fair."
