A few more details on the unscheduled stop from Washington Wire at WSJ.com: "Sarah Palin wasn’t content retreating to her hotel room to watch Tuesday evening’s presidential debate. Even after three rallies in two states, the Republican vice presidential candidate headed out to a restaurant and bar here to watch. The place of choice: Boli’s on the Boulevard, a local pizzeria with half a dozen television screens all set to Fox News. Before she walked into the restaurant, Palin shed her blue blazer and black dress and stacked heels. She donned a zip-up shirt from nearby East Carolina University and jeans, and piled her hair up on top of her head. The press was shepherded away from Palin as she sat at a table in the middle of the bar area, accompanied by both North Carolina Sens. Elizabeth Dole and Richard Burr and the mayor of Charlotte. Palin spent a considerable amount of time on her BlackBerry, either texting or talking on it, while sipping on a pint-sized glass of sugar-free Red Bull. An untouched pitcher of beer sat in front of Burr."

Sarah Palin caught some pizza with a few new friends.

After a rally at East Carolina University tonight, the Republican vice presidential candidate stopped in at the new Boli's on the Boulevard restaurant in Greenville.

Joining her to eat pizza and watch the presidential debate: U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Dole, Republican gubernatorial candidate Pat McCrory and Sen. Richard Burr and his wife Brooke.

The three dozen customers at the restaurant were about evenly matched by the traveling press corps and assorted handlers from the McCain campaign.

The politicos drank from two pitchers of Budweiser while they watched the debate on Fox News on the eight televisions in the restaurant.

The press corps was not allowed to get close, although McCrory and Burr came ove rto answer a few questions.

McCrory said Palin was "extremely down to earth" and was having fun on the campaign trail.

"I'm having pizza with the future vice president," he said. "Is that not an experience or what?"
