Yes Carlton, we got a poll wrong and took responsibility for it, made changes, and came back and had the most accurate poll of anyone for all three primaries we surveyed after it, per the scorecards put together by our competitor SurveyUSA. Some of us learn from our mistakes and some of us spend our days making anonymous blog postings and accomplishing nothing. Enjoy yourself.

To the other commenter, if you pay any attention you will see that we almost always release President and Senate one day, and the rest of the state stuff the next. Nice conspiracy theory, but it will be out this afternoon.

Sorry to inform you Mr. Jensen that your polls were dead wrong on Pennsylvania if we're going to get down to specifics. Your last poll before the April 22 primary stated that Obama had closed the gap with Hillary when instead she blew him out of the water by 10 points. You were right on North Carolina's primary but inflated Obama's chances elsewhere.

The real question is why haven't they released the other results of the survey? Is Jensen trying to put off announcing McCrory is in the lead?

Sorry to inform you, Carlton, that PPP was more accurate than Rasmussen both in North Carolina and nationally during the primary season. And they have Obama and Hagan winning North Carolina too. Nice try.

I know it is so annoying to have to spend time here, which is why you don't do it - only 13 days here in 2006? Leave it to a Democratic firm to post results boosting a Democratic candidate. Stick with Rasmussen and the real polling professionals instead of partisan hacks like Jensen and Debnam.

She didn't know this state in the first place anyways. She was NEVER qualified to be a Senator. The only thing she had was a name. She needs to be replaced.

Always fun to hear the Socialists [ meaning the NC political machine] rant on. Most people have made up their minds. There will be a heavy turnout in NC and the nation. It will interesting to see how people will come to understand that "To each according to his needs, from each according to his abilities" always fails as the US slides into a socialist abyss.

Kay Hagan has opened up a significant lead.

According to a recent survey by Democratic firm Public Policy Polling, the Democratic Senate candidate received 46 percent, U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Dole 38 percent and Libertarian Christopher Cole six percent.

Ten percent were undecided.

"Hagan has expanded her lead with independents from 9 points to 14," writes pollster Tom Jensen on his blog. "She leads in almost every region of the state, and perhaps most significantly is up 55-32 with the increasing group of voters listing the economy as their top issues."

The eight-point lead is the largest Hagan has had over Dole in any poll this year. Recent polls had shown the race tightening, though Dole was up by a similar margin in a poll taken in early September.

The automated survey of 1,041 likely voters was taken on Sept. 28-29. The margin of error is plus or minus three percentage points.
