Distributing shrubbery with campaign slogans taped on them? Oh, my. Has Perdue mistaken running for governor with junior class president? Come to think of it, she does remind me of the Reese Witherspoon character in that 1999 movie "Election" - hmmmm - maybe a vote for Bev = the best prom ever!

The real fate of the plants...........

According to the Dome article:

"Under McClatchy ethics rules, the plants will be donated to charity."

I guessing the reporters will either give these plants to their girlfriends, if any, or their wives as an anniversary present. Some will probably swipe a couple of packs of Ranch Dressing from a fast food joint and eat the plants in a mixed green salad.

If McCrory wins then the plants will surely die. And if Bev wins she will probably push that button and want the plants back.

And a newspaper with ethics? Is that like circular logic? A trick question?

Take the plants back to Lowes and get a refund. You don't have to have a receipt. The plants will get a chance to live and the reporter's can use it as part of the buyout.

I've been asked about the Mavretic video before. I didn't see it as newsworthy.

Here's my thinking:

1. We know already, from Ben Niolet's April 12 profile, that Mavretic is not a fan of Perdue's and says she's not trustworthy, etc.

2. The McCrory campaign is not publicly pushing the video. If they were directing people to it, I'd write that they were and I'd report on whether what they were saying about it was accurate.

Hope that clears things up.

Well, RTB, now that you've been outted as a Perdue operative, maybe James Protzman will re-friend you.

Forget "Negative Bev" they should probably start calling her "Desperate Bev".

Good grief. Is that the best she can do? McCrory said nice things about Bush in 2003. Big freaking deal. What was Bush's approval rating in 2003? 65%?

Where's that quote from Gov. Easley in 2004 talking about "our great President" from the Wright Bros. event?

I love it how you focus on "dirt" planted directly by Perdue, yet you do not share information about what a former NC House Speaker is quoted to say about Beverly. This is what your readers need to know about Perdue, NOT what she is trying to do to control the news media. Prove me otherwise...

Former NC House Speaker Joe Maveretic, a Democrat, had some plain talk about Lt. Governor Perdue while on the radio in Greenville, NC recently. See link below. Some of what he said about her includes:
- "I think that her entire political career has been based on flip-flops. Bev Perdue, in my personal opinion, is a person whose word you cannot trust."
- Her negative campaign reflects the character of the candidate (Perdue)
- She used a surrogate to destroy Moore during the primary and recently the accusations were found to be untrue

http://katysconservativecorner.typepad.com/katy/2008/08/joe-mavretic-tr.html
(pay particular attention to the 3:25 to 6:20 minute time period)

Our internal ethics rules here are pretty strict. I once had to give up a bag of boiled peanuts sent by the mayor of Colerain, N.C.

As I said, the plants will be donated to charity, and I would be surprised if the Perdue campaign wasn't aware of that when they sent them.

They appear to be worth about $7, in case you're curious.

Perdue's NOT showing she's the Answer

Another example of Perdue focusing on knocking Mayor McCrory versus sharing what she is going to be doing to solve our problems. Beverly, we need help, but unfortunately you are only demonstrating that you are the NOT the answer if God forbid, you get elected!

Wake up Reporters as you know it as well!

Is there something ethically wrong with Reporters taking gifts from candidates?

If the ethics laws say a legislator can be influenced for as little as $10 a reporter would certainly be at risk of being influenced by a potted plant.

Ask Bob Hall.
