I should have written more clearly, my error. In a poor attempt at wit I was anticipating future (2009) performance as a "Change" from past (2005) experience. No deception was intended. For now I shall maintain "Hope"

In 2005, latest numbers I could find, North Carolina received back $1.08 for every $1.00 in taxes sent to Washington.

I've just figured out what the Democrats mean by "Change". I give $1.00 in taxes and get 25 cents back.

Three points.

That's how far Barack Obama remains behind John McCain in the latest survey of likely North Carolina voters by Public Policy Polling.

PPP's latest survey shows that McCain, the Republican nominee, was the choice of 45 percent. Obama, who will accept the Democratic nomination this week, was the choice of 42 percent. Libertarian Bob Barr was the choice of 4 percent.

Those findings, from a survey of 904 likely voters Aug. 20-23, mirrors earlier results by PPP. The margin of error was plus or minus 3.3 percentage points.
