Treasurer Richard Moore supports a constitutional amendment on eminent domain.

A candidate for the Democratic nomination for governor, he wrote Dome that the state constitution must protect private property rights.

"I support amending the Constitution to restrict eminent domain to clear public uses and ban its use when it would primarily benefit private interests," he wrote.

But he said that a proposed constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage would be "redundant."

"Current state law clearly defines marriage as being between a man and a woman. I see no reason why the state Supreme Court would interpret it in any other way," he wrote.

A bill putting the eminent domain amendment on the ballot is in the Senate. Last month, House Speaker Joe Hackney killed a bill that would have put a gay marriage ban before voters.
