I certainly hope the governor will not sign that budget. I hope the House will vote against concurring with the Senate budget, and insist on meeting real needs of the poor and powerless, instead of giving tax cuts to those who can most afford to pay taxes.

The cartoon was great! Look, if rich, old, white men like Anglico don't like it, then obviously this cartoon has struck a raw nerve. After all, Anglico helped ~~promote corruption in the legislature~~ get Mike Easley elected.

the N&O could and should be covering, it boggles my mind to see resources poured into an off-the-mark parody about the anemic NC budget. The cartoonist obviously hasn't taken a look at the budget, because if he had, the illustration would be a skeletal, frail piece of nothing barely able to stand on its own cartoon feet.

The News and Observer, despite its occasional history of progressive stands, is often an unwitting (or even worse, happy to serve) tool of the anti-tax zealots on the right.

Rather than ask what government should be doing to help those most in need, you start with the assumption proffered by free-market fundamentalists that taxes are a necessary evil. Taxes are a necessary good. Budgets that fund important services are a necessary good.

This cartoon sucks.
