I must have missed the part where Edwards claimed to be the "world's greatest family man." Here I was all these months thinking that Edwards was running on a platform focusing on poverty reduction. Now I learn that he was the first-ever Democrat to be the family values candidate. I learn new things every day here!

I am fully aware of McCains infidelity but I do not recall his hypocritcal self promotion as "world's greatest family man" or the humiliation of his family on a national/world stage like Clinton or Edwards. Do not assume my blind support of McCain. "Empty suits" can apply across the board.

Empty suits like Former Democrat Senator, Edwards can stand up at a podium and brow-beat decent, honorable men like President Bush over and over and their dim-witted cronies cheer them on...but reality provides a much clearer image of these "wanna be" hollow leaders. Its nice for the idealic young to see the reality of shallow promoters of idealism and their hypocracy.

This whole Rielle Hunter thing further underscores what politics has become. Democrat or Republican makes no difference. As Hunter herself is reported to have said, "politics makes Hollywood look like a spiritual community".

I suspect you might call that a profound statement by Hunter, although I think most people feel the same. Among all the concerns with jobs, education, health care, terrorism, etc., that we Americans have to tackle, cleaning up politics once and for all should be at the top of the list. It's sickening the way greed has corrupted the process. It alone will be the downfall of our country.

Still alot of unanswered questions Mr. Edwards! If the affair was over and done in 2006 and your family and friends knew all about it, why on earth did you have to go see Ms. Hunter and her BABY on Monday July 21st 2008! You knew the Enquirer was still out there trying to prove this affair! Ms Hunter had not blown your cover in the 2 years! Your adoring public still didn't know! So why did you hand the Enquirer this proof on a silver platter! Not very intelligent choices for a man wanting to become president!

John Edwards has released a statement:

In 2006, I made a serious error in judgment and conducted myself in a way that was disloyal to my family and to my core beliefs. I recognized my mistake and I told my wife that I had a liaison with another woman, and I asked for her forgiveness. Although I was honest in every painful detail with my family, I did not tell the public. When a supermarket tabloid told a version of the story, I used the fact that the story contained many falsities to deny it. But being 99% honest is no longer enough.
I was and am ashamed of my conduct and choices, and I had hoped that it would never become public. With my family, I took responsibility for my actions in 2006 and today I take full responsibility publicly. But that misconduct took place for a short period in 2006. It ended then. I am and have been willing to take any test necessary to establish the fact that I am not the father of any baby, and I am truly hopeful that a test will be done so this fact can be definitively established. I only know that the apparent father has said publicly that he is the father of the baby. I also have not been engaged in any activity of any description that requested, agreed to or supported payments of any kind to the woman or to the apparent father of the baby.
It is inadequate to say to the people who believed in me that I am sorry, as it is inadequate to say to the people who love me that I am sorry. In the course of several campaigns, I started to believe that I was special and became increasingly egocentric and narcissistic. If you want to beat me up - feel free. You cannot beat me up more than I have already beaten up myself. I have been stripped bare and will now work with everything I have to help my family and others who need my help.
I have given a complete interview on this matter and having done so, will have nothing more to say.

The statement was sent via e-mail to a number of national reporters, but not to The N&O, from former Edwards' spokeswoman Jennifer Palmieri at 5:07 p.m.

Palmieri currently works as the senior vice president at the Center for American Progress, where Elizabeth Edwards is a senior fellow on health care.
