Let's consider another factor in evaluating this or any other poll. Will Nader be able to win sufficient electoral votes to win? In other words, how many state ballots will he be on? He will not be on the ballot in North Carolina. Currently, he is on the ballot in only four states. Barr is on the ballot in 31, and the Libertarian Party has been on the ballot in 45-49 states in the last several presidential elections. Nader has not.

First of all, what does "get the lower end of her spine off her shoulder" even mean? That's a new expression for me...

Second, I'll let you in on a little secret: the First Lady doesn't do anything. Shocking, I know. But it means that deciding your vote on the quality of the candidates' spouses is completely ridiculous. I suggest you make your decision by looking at the candidates' policies on the issues that you find important.

Michele Obama needs to get the lower end of her spine off her shoulder.

At first I thought she would be a gracious First Lady. It appears as if many of us have changed our opinion.

Methodology: Interviews to 600 likely North Carolina voters, conducted from Aug. 8 to Aug. 11, 2004. Margin of error is 4 per cent.

And on October 29, Bush 51 Kerry 45.

Until Obama shows an outside the margin of error lead, it is hard to fathom that he can win NC. Kerry and Edwards seemed to be close for awhile but ended up losing by 13.

John McCain continues to lead against Barack Obama.

In a survey by the Democratic polling firm Public Policy Polling, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee had 45 percent, while the Democrat had 41 percent and Libertarian Bob Barr had 5 percent. Nine percent were undecided.

The numbers mostly line up with previous polls by the conservative Civitas Institute and Rasmussen Reports, despite a patriotic-themed ad that began airing around the time of this survey.

"The race continues to be tight in North Carolina," said president Dean Debnam in a statement. "This may not be the year Democrats win the Presidential contest here, but the data showing Obama leading among non-natives is an indication that this state could become bluer as more and more people move here in the coming years."

The automated survey of 1,048 likely voters was done June 26-29. It has a margin of error of plus or minus three percentage points.
