FEC - I normally appreicate your comments, but I would rather Pat do some research before jumping to conclusions, because as someone said this issue has been around a week. The last time a study was done about drilling off the coast of NC is the Manteo Exploration and that is at least out-dated by 8 years at this point. We need a leader that will sit down and really understand the pros and cons of any issue before they develop their stance. Apparently Perdue does not agree as she will continue to be a mouthpiece for Obama, Howard Dean, and of course Mike Easley.

This certainly undercuts any argument Pat might try to make, to represent himself as pro-environment. From an objective public policy standpoint, it would have been nice to have one of the rare pro-transit Republicans reach out for a broader conservationist platform. Unfortunately, it appears that there is no place in today's Republican party for state or national candidates willing to buck Big Oil's wishes.

Isaac, I often wonder myself how you say things so very, very stupid. The offshore drilling issue has been around what, a week? Perdue's beholden to enviro-wackos who don't practice what they preach.

Since Purdue and Easley are both part of the dictatorial democratic machine that has controlled NC for way too long, anything they say should not be agreed with, as a matter of principle. The principle being if they think one way on an issue, then it must not be good for the state as a whole. I bet neither Purdue or Easley have studied the situation at all, and are more interested, like Basnight probably, on keeping the view from the beaches unaltered until they finally fall into the ocean due to erosion.

Pat McCrory has not decided yet on offshore oil drilling.

A spokeswoman for the Republican gubernatorial nominee said that he did not yet have a position on drilling off North Carolina's coastline.

"Pat McCrory is not closing the door on the possibility of offshore drilling," said spokeswoman Amy Auth. "He will carefully weigh the economic needs against any potential environmental impact."

Auth said that McCrory will have a "more detailed policy" later in the campaign.

On Wednesday, McCrory's Democratic rival, Beverly Perdue, said she is "100 percent opposed" to offshore drilling, while Gov. Mike Easley attacked a proposal from Republican presidential nominee John McCain to end a moratorium.
