The oil companies are exporting crude to overseas markets and letting them drill more domestically or offshore would be a waste of our oil because we wouldn't of received any benefit. Research how much crude oil, heating oil, natural gas, LNG, diesel, and gasoline is exported from this country and you would be shocked. Lots of the oil in the Alaskan Pipeline is shipped to Japan. The oil companies say they want to build/expand more refineries and do more drilling, but I say they don't need to do either until we stop all exports. We can never be energy independent as long as we continue exporting to other countries. Offshore drilling and onshore drilling in Alaska is extremely attractive to oil companies because one offshore well can equal fifteen onshore wells in production and drilling in Alaska produces large volumes of oil. For every barrel of oil we send overseas that's another barrel of oil we have to import.

A good rule of thumb regarding oil....it always chases the dollar bill and goes to the most illogical spot.

No where have I found anything like reporting of independent economic analysis of this offshore exploration issue.
I am struck by the central argument -- exploration for crude would necessarily bring down the retail price of gasoline.
I don't think I've ever heard of anyone opening a mine or drilling a well while other major economic players -- the government, consumers -- hope that the commodity price would drop. That's not why they do those things. I would think wildcatters want to get the highest price for their product, not something lower.
The political back-and-forth isn't interesting at all. I'd like to know whose argument is the most sound.

Are we ever surprise by Bev Perdue? NO! Oh my goodness lets not have those oil rigs in our yard even if they are miles off shore. Let's have $10 gasoline and $12 Diesel! Bev and Mike can afford it, they have the taxpayers paying for everything they do now. What a great self perpetuating Dictatorship the Democrats have formed. Perdue makes comments that make "blonds" look bad.

Kudos to Beverly Perdue for watching out for the environmental and ecological treaures of the delicate and physiologically delicate North Carolina coast. Those big oil rigs might be better off detouring around "the Graveyard of the Atlantic."

Plus the costs of drilling off the coast of North Carolina might be prohibitive if Blackbeard gets a share of the kitty.
