Re: Reps: Wright must go

I woke up this morning with a sickening cringe in my stomach, and realized that over the years no one has been doing a basic checks and balances of Tom Wright's campaign finances until now. Is this a new pattern for Mr. Wright or has it been there all along and no one wanted to address issues?
The question in mind: Was it ever noticed that there were issues that were going against the original reason why he was elected?
I don't think that the landfill that was scheduled to be placed in Brunswick County would be an asset to that county. The people of that county probably were not aware that the majority of the contributions came from individuals from New Jersey. CBS television program 60 Minutes did a program sometime in the early nineties, discussing the problem with the trash situation and the bio-hazardous waste that was coming from New York to the New Jersey shore. I remember seeing in that program a barge of trash that was being carried to another area of the country and because of newly passed legislation; that barge was bought back to its origins.
In essence, if New Jersey doesn't want the waste, why would that people of North Carolina? Also why would Mr. Wright be an interested party in sealing the deal? Now it makes perfect sense; it is all about the money$$$ and not about the ethics. At the time, Mr. Wright was chairman of the House Health Committee and the Appropriations Subcommittee; who would better know of what is occurring and who needs to be reached in order to make the deal go through..hey the people in the region would probably not put together that he was not looking out for their interest and would also deny that he had any knowledge of what was happening.. think about it . He was in the right place at the right time to know what is coming down the pipe and to take full finanacial advantage of it.
In essence, if New Jersey doesn't want the waste, why would that people of North Carolina? Also why would Mr. Wright be an interested party in sealing the deal; it is all about the money$$$ and not about the ethics. Was this official elected to do you and your families harm? The harm is coming both ways environmentally and economically? What about the health care cost that would arise from the trash and hazardous waste that would be in that landfill? What about the additional contamination of the water in the area? Now this would not only apply to Brunswick but the surrounding counties New Hanover, Pender, Columbus and more pollution in the beloved Cape Fear River and the Atlantic Ocean and would affect the tourism here. Those wonderful commercials that are run across the state advertising the beautiful beaches in Brunswick County and the beach on Wrightsville is seen in other states. The purpose is to getting people to come to the state to visit, perhaps to live on a permanent level. What attraction would it be for the water to be more polluted than scenic? Is there a new pattern for Mr. Wright or has it been there all along and no one wanted to address issues
I watched Mr. Wright on the City Council years ago when the Community Development Committee (CDC) was formed in order to assist minority owned businesses that were trying to create jobs in the community. This organization was to be watched by the council and I watched as business after business that was prospering before getting in the organization was failing with the CDC control. The general idea is that most businesses usually fail in the first 5 years of operation to see that with CDC help they were failing in the first six months on being there. Mr. Wright was on that committee and maybe because the business owners did not have the money to contribute to certain projects that is why their businesses were not encouraged. At different times we turned to Mr. Wright for guidance and or assistance in order to deal with red tap issues that consumed the time that could have been used to generate business or ideas to flourish but instead we were turned away. Now I see why! The next time that the individuals go to the polls to vote in that area, remember that you must hold the elected officials accountable and not vote because the person looks like you! We must vote our convictions and our pocketbook; we must know who to put into office from the election of the local candidate to the candidate for president

I wrote this article for a blogg to the Wilmington Star News a few weeks ago..you guys might want to consider this also.

Reps. Danny McComas and Carolyn Justice said Rep. Thomas Wright should resign.

The two Republicans from New Hanover County said they would no longer work with Wright on legislation, according to the Wilmington Star-News.

From McComas:

"I find it very unfortunate for him and his family," said McComas, whose district includes eastern Wilmington and the beach towns. "However, the fact is that the allegations made against Rep. Wright are of such gravity that the only right thing to do is take the high road and step aside."

From Justice:

"I think we now have to think of the greater good," said Justice, who lives in Hampstead and represents northeastern New Hanover County. The county "is truly facing serious issues and it is difficult to deal with those when you don’t have a cohesive delegation."

As usual, the complete list is after the jump.
