Richard Moore received $6.6 million in donations by mid April in his run for governor.

In the first quarter of 2008, the Democratic candidate received more than $1 million in donations, according to a report filed with the State Board of Elections.

Major donors include John S. Adams, chief executive of Munder Capital Management of Grosse Point Shores, Mich., Jill L. Cheek, a special deputy attorney general, Allen Clark, a section chief of the state Division of Water Quality, William H. Draper, a Potomac, Md., venture capitalist and Frank P. Gallipoli, a New Canaan, Conn., trader with Sempra Commodities.

In April, Moore loaned himself $900,000. Including loans Moore had a total of $8.1 million to spend on his run for governor.

In the first quarter of the year, Moore spent more than $5 million on advertising, not including a $73,351 bill for media production.

Moore's finance reports were hand-delivered to the board late, said Kim Westbrook Strach, a deputy director. The campaign included a letter from Moore's software vendor, which took responsibility for the lateness. Moore files his reports on time consistently, and like all campaigns, he gets a penalty waiver for his first offense, she said.

Correction: A previous version of this post misstated the total amount of loans Moore's campaign has received. In the race for governor, Moore's campaign has received a total of $1.25 million in loans.
