I have a question for Mr. Meeks. What subject is Senator Dole trying to change/avoid, the fact that she wants to have a campaign based on the issues and full of respect?

Thank you Dole campaign for making this campaign about the issues so that we can vote for the candidate that will do the most positive for our state.

a response to a request by Meek that Dole disavow the recent ad by the N.C. Republican Party that links Democratic gubernatorial candidates Richard Moore and Beverly Perdue to Rev. Jeremiah Wright.

Excuse me, but "the recent ad" underscores THE LINK Secretary Moore and Lt. Gov. Purdue have already made, on their own, with Senator Obama, who this morning admits he may have listened to a few sermons from his own pastor at the church he attended for 20 years, after all.

If that existing link, that they themselves forged, was already known inside the Beltline, it certainly wasn't being bragged about out here in Flyover County. You can be certain this pandering to the African American vote wasn't something Moore or Purdue wanted generally advertised outside the urban demographic, and they cringe each and every time a fellow Democrat or surrogate or national organization mentions the ad yet again.

They have to know that ad has already been seen by more people than it would have had Democrats simply ignored it.

Like McCain and the NCGOP, Moore and Purdue differ with Meeks on strategy.

Meek and the 'crackkks ARE the culprits as usual. When your oppressive 'party' controls Rawleigh, you can act that way. Remember,
Meek is running the group that has controlled and ruined NC for the past 100 years, the last 30-40 being the MOST OPPRESSIVE to the citizens. SHAME on MEEK and the NC Democrat Party for their participation in this VILE AGENDA!

Speeking of changing the subject, MR. MEEK. Meek indeed.

Looks to me like Dole has offered an olive branch and you took it from her and started beating her with it.

Shame.

One of U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Dole's top campaign advisors says he has asked the state and national Republican parties, as well as the National Republican Senatorial Committee, to steer clear of advertising in North Carolina's U.S. Senate race.

And he's calling on Jerry Meek, chairman of the N.C. Democratic Party, to do likewise with his Democratic counterparts.

"You can agree to not run advertising targeting Senator Dole during the 2008 election cycle as well as encourage your Senate nominee and national parties to abstain from third party advertisements," Mark Stephens, Dole's chief campaign strategist, said in a letter today to Meek.

Stephens said his letter was a response to a request by Meek that Dole disavow the recent ad by the N.C. Jeremiah Wright.

"Obviously this advertisement was run by a third party organization and has nothing to do with Senator Dole's campaign," Dole's campaign said in a release with Stephens' letter. "However, Senator Dole does want to avoid issues like this from occurring in the U.S. Senate race."

State Democratic Party officials could not immediately be reached for comment.

Update: The N.C. Democratic Party released a statement saying that Dole "should stop trying to change the subject and start telling the truth."

The release said that if Dole has the clout to pull together such an agreement within GOP ranks, she "should use that influence to stop the dishonest ad the NCGOP plans to run."
