Too bad we live in such an environment of suffocating, free speech stifling, political correctness that you can't criticize Obama without being called racist. If Perdue and Moore cravenly want to endorse Democrat presidential front-runner Obama, then why can't the NCGOP remind the voters about it? I'm disappointed, but not surprised, that the RNC and McCain would disavow Linda Daves' gutsy ad.

The deranged Pastor Jeremiah Wright, whom Obama calls his spiritual mentor, whose afrocentric (instead of Christ-centric) church Obama has attended for twenty years, says "God damn America", that the 9/11 attacks were America's just desserts, and that America created the AIDS virus to kill blacks. Obama is also good friends with unrepentant ex-Weather Underground terrorist William Ayers, whose only regrets are that the Weathermen "didn't have enough bombs". NC voters should know that about Obama, as they should know Perdue and Moore both endorsed him.

Nice comments, "riverrd", calling the NCGOP a "criminal, immoral, racist group of neanderthals". What, no "fascists" or "Nazis"? No comparison of Linda Daves to Hitler? I'm sorry you had to restrain yourself...

Jeffrey Sykes offers more intelligent commentary, but wonders "why should Republicans spend any money attempting to undermine the credibility of either Democratic candidate for governor?" Gee, Jeffrey, could it be because a Republican (likely NC senator Fred Smith or Charlotte mayor Pat McCrory) is going to be running against one of these two Democrats to be our next Governor, in a state that's heavily Democratic and has had only two GOP governors in its entire history? If you really care about our high taxes and this state's prosperity, Jeffrey, then you need to support your NCGOP when it battles the Democrats over our state's future.

If Obama and his preacher hate America this much, why in the heck does he want to lead. Maybe they both should just get the hell out and move to a nice communist nation where they wouldn't have the ability to damn their nation.

Communist Vietnam is just like this and welcomes American dollars. Obama and Wright can need to find a place they like, and it sure isn't the United States.

You liberals need to stop bitching so much and start finding solutions. Racism? That charge is sooooo tired!

You people need to get a clue. Its time we most past the politically correctness you guys have forced upon us. The NCGOP has a right to say what they feel is the honest-to-god truth!

Obama is a multicultural man. He's not "black". He's half white. So why are ya'll calling racism when that is old and tired. We moved past that with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr over 40 years ago. My own husband is half-white and multi-cultural, as is Obama. He's not concerned about racism and neither should you be.

This ad is about statewide issues not about Presidental politics. The Reverend Wright hates America and so does Obama with his associations to the terrorist group Weather Underground. The Pastor saying "God d**** America" is not racist at all. It's his opinion and as Obama's pastor for 20 years, Obama must be held accountable for his associations.

Like my mama always told me, you are who you associate with.

Sorry, liberals, but you are way wrong on this issue!!!

Perhaps the ad is merely intended as a tribute to the dying memory of Jesse Helms, the anti-Fred who elevated sneering racism to an art form and linked the GOP to right-wing guttersnipes. Good job, fellows! Chub Sewell would be proud to call you Cousin.

This is all the proof you need to see the NC repoblican party as they truely are. They are a criminal, immoral, racist group of neanderthals that are out of touch with reality! (They are much worse than that but I am not allowed to said that here on the Blog) This 'batch' of so called leaders in the rnc are becoming the most disliked group in this state. Their candidates will not be allowed to disassociate themselves from these actions and will be exposed as co-conspirators in this shameful act!

This ad makes no tactical sense for the GOP. First, it is the Democratic primary, so why should Republicans spend any money attempting to undermine the credibility of either Democratic candidate for governor? Republicans aren't voting for any of the three people mentioned in the ad.

Second, the ad has little strategic impact because, as a lifelong member of the GOP, I can tell you that I am not afraid of Obama being black, nor of his pastor being a radical black activist. I care about money and taxes and the chance for my son to have the same opportunity for prosperity as I have had.

The ad appeals to base instincts of fear and intolerance. It is simple, intellectually and morally, and makes no significant impact in furthering policy goals.

Republicans have lost, and will continue to lose, the political center if we continue to abide our leadership employing juvenile scare tactics and failing to ratchet up the intellectual level of our argument.

This ad should not run, now or ever.

Bravo to them!

I am not a Republican but I have respect for Senator McCain as a human being, and this is an excellent example of why. I am mildly surprised, but happy that the GOP is also against the ad. If more of this kind of civility were exercised, which includes the voters not allowing filthy attack ads to be so effective, as the excuse for continuing to use them always goes, we would have a far more productive political discourse. And I believe our society and our country would likewise profit.

John McCain is asking the N.C. Republican Party not to air its new ad linking two Democratic candidates for governor to Barack Obama's controversial former minister.

McCain, the presumptive GOP nominee for president, sent N.C. GOP Chairwoman Linda Daves an e-mail today about what he called an "offensive advertisement."

"From the beginning of this election, I have been committed to running a respectful campaign based upon an honest debate about the great issues confronting America today," McCain wrote.

"I expect all state parties to do so as well. The television advertisement you are planning to air degrades our civics and distracts us from the very real differences we have with the Democrats. In the strongest terms, I implore you to not run this advertisement."

Jeffrey Sadosky, a spokesman for McCain, told Dome that the campaign has not heard back from state party officials.

Update: The Republican National Committee is also calling on North Carolina GOP officials to pull their new ad.

“Senator McCain has been very clear that he expects to run a respectful campaign based on the critical issues confronting the nation," Danny Diaz, an RNC spokesman, said in an e-mail.

"The RNC has been in contact with the NC GOP and communicated that we do not believe the ad is appropriate or helpful and have asked that they refrain from running it.”
