Lt. Gov. Beverly Perdue wants another debate.

The Democratic candidate for governor has declined some debate invitations and mostly stuck to forums that don't allow a lot of interaction between candidates. But a new ad from state Treasurer Richard Moore, her rival for the nomination has Perdue ready to debate.

Perdue wants a statewide audience for the debate, in which she wants to confront "sleazy attack ads," according to a news release. She also wants to needle Moore about public records the Perdue campaign has requested from the Treasurer's Office.

The Moore campaign, which has blasted Perdue for declining debates, welcomed Perdue's release.

"We are pleased that Lt. Gov. Perdue has finally decided to accept a real debate with meaningful exchanges between the candidates on any topic," Moore spokeswoman Julie White said in an e-mail message. "The remaining two real debates include invitations from WRAL and from NC Spin and we look forward to Perdue accepting one or both of them."

The Perdue and Moore campaigns are scheduled to participate in an online debate today on BlueNC.
