I have told you about coupons and places to obtain coupons. Now I want to talk about ways to increase the value of those coupons. There are three retail stores that offer great rebates. The stores are Rite-Aid, Walgreens, and CVS. I am going to talk about each one individual and let you know the good and bad things about all rebates.

Rite-Aid is the first store I would like to talk about. This store has sales that run Sunday to Saturday every week. They also have a monthly rebate program. The program usually runs four weeks. You can pick up a rebate form in the store. The rebate will always start on a Sunday and always end on a Saturday. Most of the time these items that are on rebate for the month will be on sale during the rebate times. The other thing that you can do is register online at riteaid.com to participate in their rebate online. This means there is no purchasing of stamps. Once you enter your receipt online you will see in about 48 hours if your rebate has cleared. You can only send for a rebate check once during the rebate period. The next great things about this rebate is that the rebate is based on cost before coupons and tax. In other words you can buy say a shampoo for $2.99 and use a $1.00 coupon and still qualify for a $2.99 rebate. There are three Rite-Aid stores in the Baltimore area that are very coupon friendly. When doing any rebate you should always keep your store receipt as well as a record. With the Rite-Aid site your record is kept for you and you can pull up your account at anytime to see what you have purchased and what you are getting back. There is also a toll free number for the Rite-Aid, if you have any problems or questions. Using coupons could help you pay the tax on the items so that these items are really free in every sense of the word. Once you request your rebate check it only takes about ten days to get it. A very fast return.

Hmmm... I'm not sure I understand your question. The rebate check is an actual check... one that you can deposit in your bank account. So you don't have to spend any of it at Rite Aid at all.

Can you get money from the store if you don't spend the total amount of the rebate check in a single visit?

I finally had some time to investigate Rite Aid's Single Check rebate program. (For future reference, this post will be located in the Coupons 101 section of this page.) It seems to me that this program is similar in a lot of respects to other rebate programs we have in the area such as Walgreens' EasySaver program. But of course there are some differences, too. Here's how it works:

1) Each month, Rite Aid offers special rebates on certain items. They are marked in the weekly sales flyers as having a "Single Check Rebate" available, and the entire list for the month is available at https://riteaid.rebateplus.com. The Web site allows you to view all of the available rebates and make a shopping list, which I think is a cool feature.

Please note that like many other rebate programs, the Rite Aid "month" is not the same as the calendar month. You need to make your purchases within the allotted time frame each month, which is detailed on that Web site.

2) OK, so you see a rebate you want and you go to the store and you buy the item. The next step is to HANG ONTO THE RECEIPT.

3) Go to that same Web site from step one and sign up for a Single Check Rebate account. It asks for your e-mail address and mailing address so that Rite Aid can send you checks. You will only have to create an account once. After that you use your login and password to access your account.

4) After you've created an account, you can log in and enter the information requested from each of your receipts that qualify for a rebate. Rite Aid will then verify the receipt and mark each qualifying rebate as "waiting for you to request check." I really like this feature because you will get credit for ALL the rebates for which you've qualified, even if you didn't know a rebate existed!

5) You can enter as many receipts as you want in a given month-long period. Once you're ready, click "request check." Your rebates will be totaled and you will be mailed a check within about two weeks. So you get all your rebates on one single check, hence the name of the program.

The catch to this system is that you can ONLY request one check for each month period. So you need to make sure that you have put all of your qualifying receipts in the system before requesting your check. Otherwise you're out of luck. But once you know that one caveat, I think it's a pretty good rebate program.

And yes, if you prefer, you can snail mail your rebate in. Click here for all the details about how to submit them by mail.
