Well Let's look at the current run-down... It is already a crowded, and likely expensive race...

Moore should run. He did a good job the first time. Should have stayed Democrat. He is a good representative for moderate Dems and there are a lot in that district.

I think Moore would also be a formidable challenger. I'm not sure if he had won the Aldreman seat in Winterville though

I am also entertaining the possibility of returning to the Senate seat.

I think Taft is another good pick for the Democrats. For one, she is already an elected official, who has championed school issues for a long time. But also, she is part of (sort of) the Taft clan, which carries a lot of pull in Pitt County politics and legal circles. If Blount gets in this race too, look for this to be one expensive primary. The Don Davis factor could be interesting too, because he represents the more rural Greene county voting block, and if Taft/Blount split Greenville, then Davis could pick up Greene and Wayne...

Taft to run for Kerr's seat

Kathy A. Taft is running for state Senate.

A member of the N.C. State Board of Education, Taft announced today that she would run for the seat of retiring Sen. John Kerr, a Goldsboro Democrat.

"Senator Kerr is a great public servant, and has served the eastern part of our state for over 20 years," Taft said in a statement. "I have great admiration for John."

Taft, a Democrat, was appointed to the state board in 1995 by Gov. Jim Hunt and is now in her second term. She previously served on the Pitt County Board of Education.

Snow Hill Mayor Don Davis, a Democrat, is also running. Greenville attorney Marvin Blount III, also a Democrat, said he will decide on a run after the holidays.
