We had been told he would be speaking with reporters afterward, but that has been cancelled. His handlers say his plane is running late. </p><p>About 300 people are here for the annual North Carolina Leadership Conference sponsored by the <a href="http://www.jwpcivitasinstitute.org/">John William Pope Civitas Institute</a>, a Raleigh think tank. </p><p>Three Republican gubernatorial candidates — <a href="/dome/profiles/fred_smith">Fred Smith</a>, Bill Graham and <a href="/dome/profiles/bob_orr">Bob Orr</a> — will be speaking this weekend, as will U.S. Sen. <a href="/dome/profiles/elizabeth_dole">Elizabeth Dole</a>, the governor of South Carolina and a bevy of other representatives, including U.S. Rep. <a href="/dome/profiles/heath_shuler">Heath Shuler</a>, a Democrat.</p><p>We&#39;ll post updates throughout the weekend.
