Who is the personal injury lawyer again? Looks like Fred has been a personal injury lawyer for awhile. In fact, Fred and John Edwards have a lot in common. They are both personal injury lawyers, they both missed a LOT of Senate votes, and they both have been Democrats for most of their lives.

The three candidates handed out some interesting things at the Republican gubernatorial debate today.

Befitting his low-budget campaign, former Supreme Court Justice Bob Orr had copies of a black-and-white Xeroxed campaign flier stressing his four successful statewide campaigns.

He also had Tar Heel blue oval stickers, mimicking the classic OBX logo, that said "ORR."

Salisbury attorney Bill Graham had a large orange campaign flier that noted he is a Christian conservative who wants to lower taxes and improve education.

He also had orange wristbands, similar to the popular LiveStrong bracelets, that said "WeStandWithGraham.com."

State Sen. Fred Smith had copies of his autobiography, "A Little Extra Effort," and campaign fliers.

But his volunteers also handed out a memo from his pollster, Whit Ayres, which said he has a higher favorable rating, leads over Graham in a two-way contest and does better when Graham is described as a "personal injury lawyer."
