Thanks to The N&O for throwing a spotlight on this sleazy bit of editing early in the campaign. Maybe you've put a damper on this practice. Maybe not, but at least you've spoiled the fun for Richard Moore this time!

Anyone who was watching the legislature at that time knows that Bev Perdue was the champion for choice for women at a time when most were silent. It is hard to believe that the Richard Moore campaign is up to "dirty tricks" so early in the campaign. It should be clear to every Democrat by now that we have only one choice for Governor and that is Bev Perdue. Tell Moore that it is okay for a woman to be Governor. He should stay where he is.

A YouTube clip from state Treasurer Richard Moore's campaign does not tell the whole story of Lt. Gov. Beverly Perdue's record on abortion.

The clip, posted on Aug. 29, shows part of a television news segment from 1996 in which Perdue explains a 96 percent cut to a state fund to pay for abortions for poor women. But it leaves out a section of the interview in which Perdue says she is pro-choice.

Moore and Perdue are facing off for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination. Moore's campaign has charged that Perdue has wavered in her support for abortion rights; Perdue has defended her record. Pro-choice groups are not taking sides.
