Given everyone avoiding questions around Perdue's past with Glover makes me believe that the rumors about Perdue & the SHP that have floated around for years might just be true.

If Perdue's tenure as Governor continues to turn into a bigger soap opera than either Edwards, Easley or Sanford, then Hollywood or Wilmington studios will for sure make it into a movie. The actress they will likely choose to play Beverly is Florence Henderson (mirror images of one another). Florence is the only one of the two that actually did grow up poor. And they probably both feel the same age right now: 74

Transparency? Only when it is convenient. This promotion is strictly political. Look and Glover's lack of experience. SHP is full of corruption.
What is the connection between the guv and Glover? Hey...Protzman why don't you liberals demand transparency. You only pick and choose your issues.

The citizens of North Carolina have become accustomed to these type stories coming from Raleigh.

We are fixated on the continuing soap opera and need a weekly installment. This installment seems to be just another along that long road to the pits and depths of the other side……. the dark side of intrigue, suspense and chicanery. It is just plain good ol’ fashioned entertainment for the working families who can no longer afford cable or the movies.

I’m thinking we’re ready for a “Jones Street Reality TV Series.” This story makes it appear that someone has been booted off the island before they were ready to leave. North Carolina is fast gaining a reputation…….maybe not the reputation we wanted but it’s nice to be noticed. Stay tuned for another episode. I’m sure it’s coming soon.

Maybe the film studios who are looking tax breaks will make a movie about North Carolina politics. Maybe "Borat, Part Deux."

The official story is State Highway Patrol Commander Walter J. Wilson Jr. decided to retire after a year on the job to spend more time with his family. That created the need for a successor, and Gov. Beverly Perdue appointed a lieutenant colonel, Randy Glover, to the post this week.

But Wilson's brother-in-law said in an interview that story is not true. Wilson was forced out, Michael Madras said, because Perdue had someone else in mind for the state's top cop.

Madras said he learned this from Wilson himself minutes after Wilson attended a meeting with Reuben Young, whom Perdue appointed to run the Department of Crime Control and Public Safety. Young told Wilson at that meeting June 22, just after Wilson returned from Disney World in Orlando with his family, that he needed to step down.

"He went on vacation and came back, and his boss says, the governor wants you gone," Madras said.

Wilson works at the patrol's headquarters, but he lives in Greenville, so during the workweek he often stays at the home of Madras and his wife, Penny, Wilson's sister. They live in Raleigh.

The alternative version of events leading to Glover's promotion raises questions that Perdue, Young, Wilson and Glover would not discuss. All declined through spokesmen to be interviewed.

Chrissy Pearson, Perdue's press secretary, would not say whether Perdue wanted Wilson out. Pearson also declined to say whether Perdue had sought to promote Glover into the job. (N&O)
