Which taxes is she missing, the ones that double the electricity rates or the ones on social security benefits? Or perhaps it's the ones on bowling, NASCAR tickets, haircuts, car repairs, etc...but no taxes on trial lawyers. Wonder why that is...

There clearly is a difference between the NCAE and Teachers. And I know quite a few teachers who refuse membership to the NCAE because of there intimidating tactics. The NCAE is nothing short of a Gang. Their political thugs twist the arms of legislators, and candidates around election time, so that they can guarantee pay hikes to many (not all) incompetent, unqualified teachers. It is time we put children first, not benefits and pay demanded by the NCAE. Yes Perdue, we voters do see a difference between Teachers and the NCAE.

This wasn't an article, it was negative campaign material from Richard Moore's campaign manager Jay Reiff. It was widely circulated at the time and didn't gain traction then.

I wonder how many of the private sector profiteers, medical CEOs who have been feeding at the public trough in the name of 'free enterprise' draining the treasury the past 8 years voted for Bush TWICE, and still consider themselves Republican?

Thanks for the article, CitizenOpinionated! How come the N&O does not call Perdue on these obvious inconsistencies in how she spins her resume?

People are rightfully asking if we can trust Governor Sanford if he is not upfront with his "experiences" in SC or Argentina. In NC, can we trust Governor Perdue if she has communicated big inconsistencies with her life experiences since 1987? She has said it so many times that she probably believes herself that she actually holds two doctoral degrees, education and aging. Perhaps she really does not have a Ph.D at all?

What's the truth Beverly about your family's wealth (poor or wealthy childhood), your experience as a small business owner as well as your educational background? Now more than ever, we have to trust our leaders.

I think the GA is full of hustlers, and we don't need them to get any better at it. The article title brought to mind a funny image of Marc Basnight rolling dice outside the Legislature building, or Tony Rand asking passersby if he can "hold a dollar".

Gov. Beverly Perdue sternly urged the legislature to agree on a budget, saying the state is missing out on $5 million a day in budget cuts and tax increases.

Lawmakers appear no closer to agreeing on a tax increase package, with the Senate today postponing about ten House bills that were on the Senate calendar. Senate leaders said it was so they could hurry back to budget talks, but some House members interpreted it as playing hardball. Democrats lead both chambers.

Perdue, talking to the news media outside the capitol, said she doesn't care what combination of budget cuts and tax increases the legislature settles on between the competing House and Senate plans.

"I need the General Assembly to step up and come to consensus," said Perdue, a Democrat, emphasizing that teachers and parents don't know where children are going to school in the fall because of budget uncertainty.

House Speaker Joe Hackney, a Chapel Hill Democrat, said he agrees with the need to finish as quickly as possible.

"We appreciate (Perdue's) participation and encouragement," Hackney said, "and welcome it."

UPDATE: Perdue's press secretary on Thursday clarified Perdue's comments.
