*sigh* If I have to explain the joke, it's almost not worth telling. Almost.

I supplied the other half of your mixed metaphor (idiom, whatever). When you said, "blown out of context", you were mixing, "blown out of proportion" and "taken out of context", and the result makes no sense.

The context of written or spoken groups of words can be described as a tapestry, depicting a picture created by the writer or speaker. If you remove a few threads (words) and show them to somebody in the absence of the tapestry, that person won't know...you know what? I need more coffee.

U.S. Rep. Virginia Foxx is 66 today.

To celebrate, her husband wants you to write her a check. In an e-mail message to supporters, Tom Foxx suggested that a campaign contribution would make a perfect gift for his wife, a Banner Elk Republican.

A few years ago I had the idea of surprising Virginia for her birthday by raising money for her re-election. It was such a success that I have continued to do it.
