On Thursday and Friday, I heard countless Republicans tout the awesomeness of South Carolina's tax system, and how their low taxes attract capital. Yet 6 of the 20 worst-hit counties are found in our neighbor to the south. </p> Mon, 15 Jun 2009 11:03:15 -0400 dahedgehog comment 21101 at http://projects.newsobserver.com http://projects.newsobserver.com/under_the_dome/n_c_county_earns_unfortunate_ranking <!-- Begin check for Blog Icon --> <!-- End check for Blog Icon --> <!-- Begin check for Teaser Toggle --> <div class="field-item"><p><a href="http://www.rutherfordcountync.gov/">Rutherford County</a> earned an unfortunate spot on the Associated Press&#39; national list of counties with a population greater than 25,000 that were most severely affected by the recession.</p><p>The county ranked 13th out of the top 20 counties in the U.S. whose economic health had deteriorated the most between April 2008 and April 2009.  The AP uses unemployment, bankruptcy and foreclosure rates to measure the recession&#39;s impact.</p><p>Rutherford, home to Lt. Gov.
