Daves makes right call

In sharp contrast to all the Democrats in Raleigh running interference for the Easleys stonewalling and blocking every attempt to determine how travel records could just "disappear" into thin air, Linda Daves has made a noble and honorable attempt to expunge an embarrassment of a legislator from her own party.

Bev Perdue, Marc Basnight and Joe Hackney should take note.

I wasn't there and I don't know, but if Allred was drinking and did embarass this 17 year old page by hugging her, he should be reprimanded.

I don't like the idea of him referring to his wealth and demanding respect. You have to earn respect. I don't like it that he was traveling at a high rate of speed, either.

The NC trooper who stopped him must have smelled this alcohol too, shouldn't he?

Allred was really pushing it whenever he was speeding. He could have caused an accident. I don't think the trooper did his job in letting him continue on his way that night.

Let's hear it for Linda, folks!

In case you missed her one woman show for Charles Taylor in 2006, and Elizabeth Dole and Robin Hayes in 2008, we're bringing her back for Howard Coble in 2010, another Republican much older than 62 and worth way more than $2 million.

Wow. Linda Davies puts the Repug in Repugnant-CANT - remember her glee at the absolutely inane GOP ads against Hagan during the fall election? Davies has not a shred of decency. But if a Repug like Davies is telling another Repug like Allred to resign, that's like the sewer telling the sewer to resign. Gotta take it seriously, Allred. Step aside. Maybe you can start a team in NASCAR and field yourself in a race - they go at least 102 mph. However, they don't like it if you drink and drive.

We found that kid Justin Burr to replace Almond Joy, I'm sure Allred has another good Republican bartender stashed in his trunk to take over.

I promise the seat will stay R. That's why Daves imploded today.

Trust me, she knows more than we do. At least about how bad Allred really is, and she probably heard it from someone that wants to sit where he put his Ancient Age plastic bottle all those years.

No worries. Nothing will change. Just a younger version of crazy will emerge.

I DONT THINK THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY SHOULD ALLOWED THIS REPUBLICAN PARTY REJECT TO JOIN THE RANKS OF THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY EITHER JUST IN ORDER FOR HIM TO KEEP HIS SEAT . Just as The Easleys poor judgement is not ideologically based "because they are Dems", neither is Allred's poor judgement "because he's a Repub".

Both have become unnecessary embarrassments to their parties and to their constituents and to this state.

State Republican Party Chairwoman Linda Daves says Rep. Cary Allred should resign his seat in the state legislature.

Daves just released a statement calling for Allred, a Burlington Republican, to step down following the release Wednesday of a report in which several of Allred's legislative colleagues said they were revolted by his actions during a Monday night House session three weeks ago.

The report included the accounts of several Republican legislators who said they smelled alcohol on Allred's breath and saw him give an inappropriately long hug to a teenage page from his district. Several lawmakers said the 17-year-old girl seemed embarrassed by what one member called a "gruesome bear hug."

"Conducting oneself in an honorable and ethical manner while acting as a public servant should be a mandate for both political parties," Daves said in the statement.

Daves also took issue with a quote attributed to Allred by one of his Republican colleagues. "I am 62 years old, and I'm worth $2 million. People ought to show me respect," Allred was quoted in the report as telling colleagues who confronted him that night.

"Being 62 years old and worth $2 million does not entitle one to hold elected office as a Republican," Daves said. "The Republican Party is not a party of entitlement."

Allred has said he is considering leaving the Republican Party to become "unaffliated."
