Hackney and Stam's "Much Ado About Nothing." This is simply prudish behavior on the part of the General Assembly. This incident does not rise to a decorum breach. Actually, this would be a good time to call in scholars in organizational behavior. Let us hope that these ongoing imbecilic decorum recriminations by our legislators do not actually escalate to total "McCarthyism!"

My concern is Rep. Alred was apparently driving under the influence of alcohol at 102 mph. Thank God nobody was killed. He should loose his licenses and never be allowed to drive again. Two Million dollars! Sounds just like a drunk. I've seen a lot of drunk millionares on Monday night that had to borrow money the next morning to get out of the mess they got in the night before.

As for the happenings on the Chamber Floor, those present can handle that situation.

At least the page was a female. Wonder if his 102 speeding ticket has been dismissed yet? "special" people like some of them think they are aren't suppose to be bothered with tickets like us common folk (taxpayers).

(1) The ones complaining were just jealous.
(2) It didn't cost ME or any other taxpayer in NC ONE CENT, like the infamous SLEAZELY GANG is doing, and like little BEV is and will do.
(3) Forget about it. Go after the SLEAZELY/PERDUE GANG. THAT WILL affect your life. Some old man that can't even get it up anymore is immaterial.

Because the N/O hasn't reported on Mr. Allred's political affiliation and because we know if he was Republican that would have been all over the article we should assume that he is a Democrat and we shouldn't be surprised; after all inappropriate behavior with Pages is a resume enhancer for a Democrat.

Several House members were disturbed, even shocked, when they saw Rep. Cary Allred embrace and kiss a teenage girl on the chamber floor, according to a report summarizing an investigation into the incident.

The report by House sergeant at arms, Bob Samuels, includes written statements from several lawmakers, including Allred. The report will be forwarded to the legislature's ethics committee, which would consider whether to take any action.

Allred, a Burlington Republican, says he was not drunk on April 27 when he hugged the page, the daughter of a neighbor and family friend.

"The page lives across the road from me and is like my granddaughter," Allred wrote. "Her parents stated...they have no problems with what I did and neither does she."

Others were concerned by what they saw that night. Rep. Paul Stam, the House Republican leader, and Rep. Thom Tillis, the House Republican whip, confronted Allred in the chamber, even before the hug because of his erratic behavior that night.

Tillis recounted that Allred said, "I am 62 years old, and I'm worth $2 million. People ought to show me respect."

Some time after that, several House members said they saw the embrace.

"Representative Allred had a female House Page in what seemed to be a never-ending embrace that resembled a gruesome bear hug," wrote Rep. Mitchell Setzer, a Catawba Republican. "When the embrace finally broke, Representative Allred stepped back for a moment and then he stepped forward and began the hugging procedure again. I have never witnessed anything as unsettling as this in the eleven years that I have been a member of the General Assembly."
