Hey scharrison looks like ANOTHER DEMOCRATIC cabinet nominee by Democratic President Barack Obama has problems not paying taxes.

The DEMOCRATIC Govenor of Kansas Sebilius and her husband owed over $8,000 in taxes and fines.

What were you saying about Republicans again? Grandstanding is not a crime. Not paying your taxes is a crime.

I stand (sit) corrected. There are a lot more names from Durham than Charlotte, it just seemed like there were mostly big numbers from the QC. There's some big numbers from Durham too...

scharrison You do make a reasonable point in paragraph 2 but when you have the person being appointed to be in charge of the $$ and he fails to file his own taxes you just have to wonder...

By the way, I am registered democrat and I think both parties are full of losers.

This is exactly the kind of pointless partisan grandstanding that has earned the North Carolina Republican Party its powerless minority position.

Ooh! How about this: we should stop arresting drunk drivers and writing tickets to speeders because all those Senators and Representatives up in D.C. get special treatment by the police! It ain't fair!

A state legislator thinks everyone should get Timothy Geithner's deal.

Rep. Jerry Dockham, a Davidson County Republican, has filed the Geithner Tax Fairness for N.C. Citizens Act, named for the current Treasury secretary.

During his confirmation hearings, Geithner revealed that he had failed to pay $34,000 in back taxes. He paid the Internal Revenue Service the taxes plus interest, but was not fined.

Dockham's bill would allow North Carolinians who owe $50,000 or less in back taxes on their state income tax to also avoid a penalty fine.

"If he got that benefit, I think the average citizen should get the same courtesy," Dockham said.

Ultimately, Dockham argued that Congress should enact a similar bill, but he said he's just a state legislator so he'll stick with North Carolina for now.
