Hey guys,

On the bread question, I heard this morning from Missy Vatinet, who owns La Farm Bakery in Cary with her husband, Lionel. Missy said the bakery does bake a Dark Belgian Chocolate Cranberry for Christmas and Easter and has a popular snack bread "White Choc Mini Baguette." Pictures of both below... yum.

I'm looking for Eggnog coffee. Regular or decaf. I bought some last year at Kroger but no luck this year.
Thanks!

I stand corrected. La Farm is in Cary. La Brea is in California.

La Brea is not a locally owned bakery, although I thought the same thing on hearing the name....The one in Cary is called La Farm. http://www.lafarmbakery.com/ They also sell at the State Farmer's Market. I don't know about a chocolate cherry bread, but my little girl and I once sampled some sort of chocolate chip bread there that was one of the most divine things I've ever eaten. I don't buy it because if I did this little girl would OD, kind of like how horses founder from eating too many apples. Anyway, check out their website & give them a call if you like.

Re: chocolate cherry bread... Great Harvest used to make one that was divine! Perhaps they will again this year? There is a GH near Six Forks/Strickland.

About those cinnamon chips - I have used the King Arthur chips (I love King Arthur!) however, I actually prefer the Hershey chips, they seem to have a stronger cinnamon flavor. The King Arthur chips are a bit cheaper than ordering from the online places that sell the Hershey's so I do use them if I'm really desperate.

Does anyone know where to find mi-lem (used for making Whiskey Sours) locally? I've been ordering straight from the manufacturer but it would be nice to have a local source in a pinch.

@ northraleigh and jhicks: La Brea is a locally based, family-owned bakery, and I'm sure they'd listen to requests to bring that bread back. Of course, it might have been a vendor-supply issue since it was sold at HT, but stop by the bakery in Cary (Preston Corners) and maybe they'll still have it there.

I buy my cinnamon chips online through the Baker's Catalogue by King Arthur Flour. I usually buy a big order of them to last me a year. You will find they are of a much higher quality than the Hershey ones. You can go to their website and you can sign up to get emails from them about special deals. They have been having frequent free shipping deals. Their products are of the highest quality and I buy from them throughout the year. I also shop their store whenever I am up in New Hampshire visiting my son as the King Arthur Flour store is just an hour's drive away on the NH and VT border. Check out their website....www.kingarthurflour.com

Yessss! I've been waiting for an opportunity to get my search re-started!

This is not grocery-related, but I'm hoping that some of your deal-seekers are also fierce fashionistas who might hit up discount retailers.

I had this great 3.5' (maybe 4') tall vase that I was using as a base for a cocktail table in our kitchen and it unfortunately was knocked over and broken by some very excited (big) dogs. It was originally purchased at Home Goods but even though I have a product number, they won't name the manufacturer because of "sourcing agreements" -- hrrmph.

I've uploaded a picture of the top of it to Picasa (with one of the culprits checking out the evidence) if anyone wouldn't mind taking a look and keeping their eyes open at TJMaxx, Home Goods, etc., etc.!

Many thanks in advance as I'd love to replace this piece!

Hershey's Cinnamon chips: we had the same problem, could find them nowhere, even places Hershey says they are--Food Lion, etc. Lucky for us, we travel to KY every few months and bring a supply back--if needed. If anyone here knows where they are please tell us !!!
Thanks

I moved this to the top of the blog for now because you guys seemed into helping each other out, and I don't want you to stop just because the post got bumped off the main page!

It's Monday, so I thought this would be a great time to put up one of those posts where readers of Taking Stock can help each other out. Is there an item you've been desperately combing the stores for? What are you in search of? (ISO for short) Post it here and maybe one of your fellow readers can help you out.

If you're posting an ISO item, be as specific as possible. Give the brand, describe the package, etc. If you're responding to an ISO posting, be as specific as possible. Give the store name, location, etc. so that the other person can actually go find it!
