Pickingperdue, what world do you live in? Your comments make no sense and I feel as though your attacks on others are some desparate attempt to divert attention from Perdue's false accusations and lack of substance.

Since we're regarding leadership from a partisan/democratic viewpoint(Susan Burgess), would discrediting one's leadership from a non-partisan viewpoint carry more weight(Joe Mavretic)?

If McCrory's leadership was a non-factor, I guess that equates Bev's leadership to non-existent.

Pitiful Pandering Divisive Perdue

A real leader would not try to divide this state, and recognize that we all rise and fall together.

This ad speaks volumes about Bev's inability to lead our state out of a major economic crisis. Or any leadership for that matter. But out of touch is exactly what we are all learning is common from Bev Perdue - a person who claims to be from down east, but actually resides in Chapel Hill.

It is sort of like that old tired claim she made about being a coal miner's daughter, but forgetting to add that her dear ole' daddy owned the mine.

Bev ought to know better, and Bev ought to be ashamed. Bev's going to learn on election day that she is the fool.

Democrats for Pat McCrory!

I can't believe you are harassing concerned 53 about idol worshiping the mayor. Could you answer a simple question for me??? How did Bev become so rich??? Maybe by being a parasite on the back the taxpayers for her whole career.

Concerned 53, I am truly concerned about you. You seem to have some sort of misguided idol worship for your mayor. Obsessions aside, I brought up the country club (how many times must I tell you this) only b/c whiny Playboy Pat was such a poor mouth and had to run a garage band campaign. His "garage band" campaign looks more like his Myers Park Country Club, okay? I think this rationale is clear...are we done with that point now?
I've heard his "difference is leadership" before; maybe he "borrowed" that from Sanford along with the "garage band" campaign idea. Anyway, it's a misnomer for McCrory...just let it go before he looks even worse.
Regarding leadership - his city council has said he is a nonfactor. Can we just admit it and move on?
The "we" is everyone I have heard talking about McCrory
As far as your grading system, you have misspelled exaggeration again (after I have already given you one free pass); how can we trust your grading scale...maybe you could use your hero's "calkalator"

PP for PickingPerdue:
- you are right that no one cares about country clubs, but I believe you were the one that brought it up as a concern in the first place
- Who's this We stuff, i.e. "we really don't trust Pat"? If it's you, say that it's you and that will be okay.
- Another exageration or lie on your part - I believe that he started using "the difference is leadership" earlier this year. Teacher, I think you just got thrown out of your academic group for not checking your facts. Perhaps an honor code violation as well.
- Regarding leadership - I believe that you are throwing Charlotte's voters under the bus as I think that they have elected him 7 times to lead the city. Obviously he has had some tough stands & made some tough decisions regarding sidewalks (bucking developers to bring neighborhoods together - is that bad?), the arena and the wildly popular light rail. Whether you like his decisions/stands or not, it was leadership. Charlotte's voters could have elected someone else, even Susan Burgess, but for some reason they have not. Please tell me another Mayor of Charlotte that has had more of an impact on the city and the surrounding region than McCrory & why (I am going to grade you again on your facts used!)

When you write PP is that Playboy Pat? You know, "the difference is leadership" (the same, tired old cliche that he's used for years)? What we need to focus on here is that McCrory has no leadership. We simply can't have the juvenile mentality of "Palin is hotter in person" in Raleigh. His negative ads are wearing us all down; like the Head On Commercials, his ads are grating, annoying, and offensive. It may help if he would step out from behind RGA and admit he sponsors those ads.
No one cares about the country club status except that Pat whines about having no money and pretends he is running a "garage band" campaign.
It's Pat's constant lies that turn us all off...we really don't trust Pat McCrory!
If you want to see what Pat's economic leadership would look like, look in your rearview mirror.
PS Please pardon the frat boy status reference at Catawba; clearly, Pat would never have gotten into an academic group...sorry!

Wow Isaac, not calling Beverly a reformer! While I don't expect it, there might still be hope for your vote. The Mayor will definitely be a reformer and who knows, you might get some of your personal agenda regardless.

Hey PP, you are sounding more and more like Beverly as you too tend to spat out stuff even if it is not factual. There are no Greek Fraternities at Catawba College and even though he has a self-deprecating personality, he's not exactly a frat boy. As a teacher, you would give a child an F that did as poor a job of fact checking as you do (Remember to footnote).

And I loved how you complained about the Mayor's $500k house and country club membership until you got busted about Beverly's $1.8 million home in Chapel Hill and her membership at Chapel Hill CC. Heck, you ought to check to see if your democratic leader that cares so much about the middle class actually has more than one house or club membership. And I am glad that this middle class leader of yours can lend her own campaign about $1 million. I wonder how she expects to get paid back. Probably from the unions that she is in bed with.

And since you seem to know Beverly so well given that you have seen her several times over the past couple of weeks in Charlotte, how about asking her to share with us her travel records over the past 8 years. Is she scared that her wasteful junkets will cause her to get crucified the same way Mary and Mike have been?

How humorous that the N&O runs an article showing that one of Perdue's ads is an OUTRIGHT LIE, and the only retort from the Perdue-ites is, "Well, he's a frat boy!" There are much more important issues to discuss here, like how Perdue is sinking to some sleazy new lows in an effort to win at all cost.

And if we're going to start picking our candidates on the basis of appearance, Perdue will lose all around, I promise you.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but didn't the Alliance for North Carolina start the negative ads war with a number of ads against McCrory? Didn't Bev Perdue during the primary promise to run a clean, positive campaign regardless of what her opponent (Richard Moore at the time)ran? Maybe the reason why McCrory has every major endorsement in this state is because Bev has spent very little time telling us what she would do as Governor and all of her time playing on the fears of the voters down east.

Let's choose hope over fear, we don't need four more years of failed Democratic policies, corruption and the "good old boy network" in this state.

To pickingperdue and Gosh, again you to must have the least intellect on this board. There are four greek letter organizations at Catawba College-

Alpha Chi
A national honorary society, Alpha Chi seeks to recognize junior and senior students who have demonstrated outstanding scholarship and character in pursuit of a liberal arts education. Membership is limited on the basis of academic standing (3.7 grade point average as a junior, 3.5 GPA as a senior and rank in the top 10 percent of the class), and all members must be elected by the faculty. Alpha Chi is the highest recognition of academic excellence on the Catawba campus for students in the B.A., B.F.A., and B.S. degree programs.

Alpha Psi Omega
Alpha Psi Omega is the National Honor Society for theatre students. Election to membership is based on character, leadership, exceptional performance of production responsibilities, and scholarship. The purpose of Alpha Psi Omega is to provide an honor society for those doing a high standard of work in dramatics; and, through the expansion of Alpha Psi Omega among the colleges and universities, provide a wider fellowship for those interested in theatre.

Alpha Sigma Lambda
Alpha Sigma Lambda is the national honor society promoting academic excellence in non-traditional programs and recognizing the academic accomplishments of outstanding students in the School of Evening and Graduate Studies at Catawba College. Student membership is limited to the top 10 percent of Evening and Graduate students who have earned at least 24 semester hours at Catawba College (plus a minimum of 12 semester hours in liberal arts subjects here or at other institutions) and who have attained a minimum GPA of 3.5. Induction into Alpha Sigma Lambda is the highest recognition of academic excellence at Catawba College for students in the B.B.A. degree program.

Beta Beta Beta
Tri-Beta, a national honor and professional society for biology students, is dedicated to improving the appreciation of biological study and undergraduate research. Regular membership is for students who show great interest in biology and demonstrate superior academic achievement. Associate membership is open to all students with an interest in the biological sciences.

Please explain to this board which one of these associations you are trying to use the negative association of "frat boy" with.

Playboy Pat needs to worry about state mental health care...his own if he thinks we believe that his ads are clean. The only real difference b/w McCrory's and Perdue's ads is that she is honest enough to stand behind hers while PP hides his little frat boy face behind RGA.
I'm sorry, but PP is not the leadership we need unless you are a rat in rush week at a Catawba College fraternity. Even then, PP might not be able to lead these boys anywhere except to a video of Palin so they can all drool together.

Got another brochure from that mayor of Charlotte, Pat McCrory.

Bill: I got that too. I’m surprised he even thinks us folks out in the country can read...

Henry: ... or have indoor plumbing

Bill: McCrory sure has been insulting to us.

Henry: I know. I read in the paper that he said Charlotte's getting ripped off, and he’d take money away from rural highways...

Bill: ...Oh, you’re kidding.

Henry: Why Bill, he even questioned whether we should pave roads in small towns and rural areas.

Bill: And you know, McCrory's the guy who wants to let New Jersey and New York ship their garbage down here to North Carolina.

Henry: Pee yew. Of course now he's trying to change the subject and look tough on immigration.

Bill: Yeah, but I saw where McCrory admitted he paid illegal immigrants to work on city projects in Charlotte.

Henry: I guess McCrory's found two country boys who can’t get fooled.

Bill: Henry, McCrory's going to find out on election day who the fool is.

Perdue: This is Bev Perdue, candidate for Governor and I sponsored this ad. Paid for by Bev Perdue Committee.

The background: McCrory has repeatedly criticized the funding formula that determines how state road dollars will be spent. He has complained that the formula does not adequately account for population in deciding which areas should get more money. McCrory has said that metropolitan areas should get more money, which would mean rural areas would get less.

The claim that McCrory questioned whether rural roads should be paved is a stretch. In 2000, at a meeting of North Carolina mayors, McCrory said that the state's policy of building paved roads to every community encourages sprawl, according to an Associated Press account.

McCrory's statement about Charlotte getting "ripped off" also refers to criticism of state funding formulas.

The garbage talk refers to the Solid Waste Management Act of 2007. Favored by environmentalists, the bill was designed to restrict new landfills in the state. It was spurred by concerns that private regional landfills would turn N.C. into one of the country's top five importers of trash. One landfill, proposed for rural northeastern North Carolina, would have buried up to 3 million tons of garbage a year and create a trash mountain 270-feet high.

McCrory cited the measure as an example of the kind of bill he would veto as governor. But he calls the ad a distortion.

That's because the bill also included new taxes on municipalities. An early version would have charged minicipalities $2.50 per ton to dump trash and debris. The N.C. League of Municipalities also opposed the bill, at least at first. It dropped its opposition after winning concessions such as getting a larger share of the proceeds to local governments and lowering the so-called tip tax to $2.

McCrory said in interviews in 2005 that he believed, but did not know, that there were illegal immigrants working for sub-contractors on city-funded construction projects, as there likely were at employers throughout the city. He said the city did not have the staff or resources to try and enforce laws that the federal government is supposed to enforce.

Is the ad accurate: No. McCrory questioned a policy of paving roads to all developments, and both Democrats and Republicans have questioned the state's road funding formula. He opposed the trash bill over the tax. It's misleading to say he wanted to import trash. On illegal immigrants, he made clear he had no firsthand knowledge that they were working on the construction sites, so at best he was admitting to speculating. He also raised the issue in the context of the need for federal enforcement.

— Mark Johnson
