Burr on landing field

U.S. Sen. Richard Burr sent Secretary of the Navy Donald Winter a letter explaining his opposition to a proposed landing field in Washington and Beaufort counties. In the letter, Burr says the landing field would affect migratory birds, hurt the local economy and put pilots at risk.

"It is clear to me that there is insurmountable and growing opposition to the Washington County Site," he writes.

The letter is dated April 9, 2007.
