Voter rolls

State and federal officials are challenging North Carolina's voter rolls.

The U.S. Department of Justice has said it is reviewing North Carolina's voter rolls, noting it has found irregularities in the number of people registered to vote.

And state Auditor Les Merritt began a review of the state voter rolls in January.

Merritt argued that the preliminary findings should be considered before legislators decide on a bill that would making registering to vote easier.

Gary Bartlett, head of the State Board of Elections, said the findings were flawed. (Char-O)
