Time to start serving time?

Unless a federal judge says otherwise, former state lottery commissioner Kevin Geddings will report to prison by July 2, according to court papers filed this week.

Geddings, formerly of Charlotte, has been assigned to FCI Jesup, a minimum-security facility in southeast Georgia, reports David Ingram of The Charlotte Observer. That's about 2 1/2 hours from where he and his family now live in St. Augustine, Fla.

The former Democratic campaign consultant is asking to remain at home on bond while he appeals his conviction and sentence. Last month, a federal judge in Raleigh sentenced him to four years in prison for committing fraud when he failed to report thousands in payments from lottery companies on his state ethics form.

It is not clear when a judge might rule on that request.

Correction: An earlier version of this post misstated the security level.
